Question Tight interline connection options

I'm flying PHL-TPA-EYW and return this weekend with the PHL<>TPA legs on US and the TPA<>EYW legs on Gulfstream. I’ve got 40 minutes to connect from US to CO on the outbound and 25 minutes to connect from CO to US on the return. Both of these are listed as legal connection times by the airlines. Its all on a UA ticket. So after you stop laughing and thinking that I’m crazy for even trying this I have a question...

If I miss the connection at TPA on the outbound will Gulfstream just rebook me on a later flight?

Also, there are earlier Gulfstream flights EYW-TPA for the return that have plenty of seats. Should I show up at the airport early and try to get on one of them or should I just chance the tight connection?
