Need Advice?!?

Supposed to travel on reward ticket on continental metal to LGW from EWR next week and return a few days later on VS metal. Booked through OnePass call center, not CO.com as website showed 0 availability for VS UC . . .
Anyways, looks like I cannot travel and i'm not sure what to do. Definitely traveling to Europe this summer in July, but don't have exact dates yet. Should I:
1) Refund miles to OP account, or
2) Guesstimate dates in July and try to change ticket for then
3) Other suggestion please.

Other (possibly) relevant information:
I am CO Silver
My wife is also flying same reward itinerary w/no status.
Each ticket cost 100,000 CO miles and apx 210usd in taxes/fees.

thanks for the help.

You need to pay the fees to redeposit your miles regardless you book your summer flight now or 2 months later.

If you're not going, just refund/redeposit the award. CO does not allow date changes for free like other carriers (UA/AA), so there's no advantage to guessing your date. In fact, there's a disadvantage, as you'd have to pay to change it, and then pay to change it again if you're wrong. You might as well pay to refund/redeposit the award, and then rebook when you're ready.

Thanks. I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure. So the calculus doesn't really change even if I know the exact dates. Still will need the to pay the refund/rebooking fees/taxes. Right?

You'll pay CO's redeposit fees. Taxes that you've paid will be refunded to you. You'll then pay taxes on your new flights when you book them.

the best reason to rebook the flights ASAP so you have it locked in, that is when you know your dates rather then simply picking something out of air and then paying again to redeposit the miles.

Nice to be a Plat and avoid those redepositing fees. A friend would have paid NW close to $1000 a yr if he wasnt a Plat with them.

And I'm sure said friend would be more careful in waiting to book if this fee weren't waived. So it works both ways.

truth be told, it was Me who got him to book anything once he thought Maybe he would use it. He use to think of going somewhere and when he finally decided to go there wasnt any award tkts available.

I told him as a Plat you wont have a redeposit fee so why not book the tkt/s and worse comes to worse you cancel them if you wont use them.

Had NW charged even Plats, then he wouldnt have been booking them as he has. its not like he said OK I have over 1M in miles so ill go book 900k worth of tkts. Its more like the OP sit, Ok Id like to go to London sometime this summer, so Id tell him try to figure out when youd probably go and book it. When you know you wont be going, call and cancel it so that someone else will be able to use their miles.

the best part is you can book say a coach tkt since Biz isnt available and if Biz becomes available simply switch it w/o it costing anything to do so, or vice versa at least you got something and can then go make Hotel etc plans. rather then make the other plans hoping to score a free tkt and tehn when you dont either have to cancel all the plans or buy atkt at very high fares.
