Seatmap Accuracy (and a dead post)

Anyone have any idea why my first post is empty? Weirdness...

I was asking in my previous post, I'm travelling ewr-nrt and the seatmap shows the load is like 30% or so. Is that accurate? I remember being on a flight that was empty and then it was mysteriously sold out. Trying to figure out how to play this one. Also, what is the best strategy to try for a mileage upgrade (other than praying)?

FYI, I use expert flyer and not just CO.com...

Thanks guys, long time lurker and now, second time poster.

If you haven't already done so, add yourself to the upgrade waitlist. Be sure to check periodically on co.com to see if any upgrade seats have opened up. Are you an elite with CO?

Welcome to the posting side

I'm not sure what type of mileage upgrade you can expect to receive without paying; the only way to get one is to put yourself on the waitlist and hope it comes through.

What are you trying to "play" with the seat map? It is not particularly accurate for determining loads. The best you can really do it to look at EF or SeatCounter or any of those and that is really a very limited view of the situation. I'd recommend booking the seat that you'd want assuming the plane is full or close to full now and then at the 24-hour OLCI window you'll likely get a better sense as to whether there is an empty row or something like that.

Thanks for all your help, I called CO today and the upgrade was available on both legs so, much to my wife chagrin, I went for both. Can't put a price on comfort over 14 hours
