CLE-EWR on time?
Hello
Next Wednesday, I need to be at EWR to check in by 2130 latest. I'm coming in from CLE and wondering whether it's safe to get the 1900 that arrives at 2055.
How often are these flights cancelled or delayed at this time of year? I really don't want to get the earlier flight as it will involve a 3 hour extra wait.
thanks

Late in the day you can expect a "routine" delay going into EWR from CLE due to backed up traffic.
I do most of my flying CLE-EWR- somewhere better and it is a rare occurrance that I am on time into EWR.
On the tarmac in CLE before you take off or on the Tarmac in EWR waiting for a gate to open up ................either way I got $20 says you're cutting it too close................and that's not even addressing weather.

For the past 54 flights, flighstats.com find that 37 of them (68%) arrive on-time. More troubling is that 13 of them (24%) are "excessively late", which means 45 minutes or more I think.
They give this flight the rating of 0.1 out of 5. Not kidding.
The previous flight is only 2:10 prior. Not 3 hours.

I think I will take the earlier flight and have a rest in the EWR Silverjet lounge instead...
many thanks for the superfast responses ^

Try to go earlier to save yourself the worry. I recently went to Shannon TATL. I could have worked most of the day I left and taken the later flight out of CLE and had only 55 minutes connection. At the recommendation of the CO booking agent, she convinced me to take the earlier flight that gave me almost 3 hours layover.
Well played! The earlier flight we took was an hour delayed, but we still had 2 hours to go to PC and shop. Looked at the board before we boarded, the later CLE flight was delayed and wasnt going to get in till well AFTER our Shannon flight left. Shannon flight left on time..needless to say, Im glad I took the earlier flight.

I fly CLE-EWR and back all the time as I fly out of EWR internationally almost exclusively.
Anyway, maybe its just me but almost NEVER had a CLE-EWR or EWR-CLE that left on time. This year, I think I've been back and forth between those airports over 30 times, and on a good day the delay is 1 hour. My last 4 flights however have all been delayed between 3 and 8 hours. All non weather related.
The other day I flew EWR-CLE ans we were delayed 3 hours because the plane was there but no crew. The boards all showed "on time" meanwhile the gate agent told us the real story.
I still can't believe that in a hub the size of EWR they need to wait for a crew to arrive for chicago to staff a little 1 hour flight to CLE. For pete's sake they don't have 10 extra people on call in their busiest hub?

Most, if not all, flights from CLE to EWR are delayed and it gets worse as they day progresses or if there is any sort of moisture in the air. I always try to give myself 2 hour layovers at a minimum and preferably more if I can swing it. It still amazes me that these flights are still late even though they are padded with an hour over actual flight time.
This is one of the reason that CLE-based flyers are crossing their fingers that the CDG goes year round as anticipated.

Well the forcast for today from Cle to Ewr is possible delays due to low ceilings and gusty winds. When it's not weather related the delays in the afternoon to Ewr most of the time are for volume. Just my 2 cents.
