Rant against Continental

Flying yesterday from BWI to OKC at 6:30PM. I know the weather is bad in OKC but the Continental flight status web site says my flight is ontime. I drive from Washington to Baltimore only to be told that OKC has been closed all day and my flight will not go and I cannot get out until Wednesday.

I fly 200K + a year on United. This was my first Continental flight. Is this typical?

There has to be more to this. CO doesn't fly BWI-OKC nonstop. What was your scheduled itinerary?

Why should that matter? It had to be BWI-EWR or CLE or IAH-OKC. And if OKC was closed then the connecting flight from any where was Canceled, and the OP should have been properly notified thats if they asked to be contacted. But in as much as they called in and it was an evening flight, seems CO Messed up on this 1.

So they didn't cancel it until later in the day. Usually when there's severe weather like this, CO will put up a relaxed change policy online.

If you didn't want to go to the airport, you could have taken advantage of their policy.

I'm not sure UA or anyone would have handled this one better. They really didn't know they wouldn't be getting in there until later.

Continental is loath to cancel flights -- seemingly moreso than other airlines -- so they might have still been hoping to get out. Sometimes this is helpful (hey I got in at 2:30 AM, but at least I got there) and sometimes it really stinks (sat around the airport until 3 AM and then they finally handed out hotel/meal vouchers). I've had both experiences.

12/10 (yesterday)

CO1822 BWI-CLE scheduled time 6:30p-7:50p, actual time 6:24p-7:36p

CO2961 CLE-OKC scheduled time 8:50p-10:36p, actual time 9:31p-11:43p

What are we talking about?

Maybe the OP meant 6:30am? Many morning flights from IAH/CLE/EWR-OKC were canceled.

adding on...CO does have a relaxed change policy in effect right now, in fact, began 12/10/07. I myself was scheduled to go to OKC today, but decided not to.

Not to rub salt into the wound but that flight would have connected in CLE flight 2961 and the flight was not cancelled last night it left 41min late and went to OKC. Due to the obvious weather our operations were pending due to operating conditions in the airport but that flight was *NOT* cancelled.

Reports from my family and friends to me told me at one time the airports actually ran out of deicing fluid and the airport in TUL lost power Monday and all flights were cancelled there.. I am so glad I was not home visiting family this weekend.

Rhetorical, right? No, it's not typical.
