CO Gold till 2009 on Ebay

I was searching on ebay and came across a Gold elite membership up for bids. I know there are vouchers sold on ebay that shouldnt be but Elite status too? How are these people doing this?

Delta Gold Medallion status is also for sale on ebay. The seller has several feedback items from buyers delighted with their new Gold status! They say they were initially skeptical but the Gold status came through as promised. Something seems very wrong here.

Sounds like an inside job to me. Although as a long time gold elite, I sure as heck would like to know what this "gold luggage" tag looks like?

Sounds like this person has a left over from the priv. pack.

Come on, if they are stating status last to 2009, its an inside job.this sucks for all of that "earn" status!

In some way I think this is related to Centuion given the other Delta offer.

I need to ask my friends with Centurion how it works, but maybe this guy has a Cent card and no need for the status. You have to give them a FF number to connect to the account, but don't know if they cross reference names.

Or more likely an enterprising but unscrupulous Amex employee. Not sure how the airline could verify that someone is really Centurion other than knowing "if it comes from X Amex source" it should be Centurion.

That would have been a wise decision.

How can you transfer or sell gold status? Wonder if OP would allow it?

You can't transfer or sell status. Of course they won't allow this.

I sent the seller an email asking how this can be sold. I guess I would never get a response but if I do I will post it here.

Some companies are given status for their higher level executives. If they're not used, some enterprising person has decided to sell it.

At least that's what I'm assuming. I have seen status sold on ebay in the past, and it's usually at the end of the year.

Would it be out of line to get COinsider's ruling on this?

Sounds like an amex/airline employee gone awry.
