So, I'm signed up for my first DO and am excited to be participating. I thought people (friends who don't fly or don't care about miles) would think it's crazy to fly to Houston to hang out with people I've never really met, so I didn't tell anyone for a while. But the cat is out of the bag now, and guess what, NOBODY thinks it's crazy!
They either a) think it's cool b) are jealous because they have nowhere as fabulous to go or c) ask me how to get FF miles. They think CO is really smart for investing in customers with a social event (win hearts, not minds.)
Anyone else have this reaction?

Quite the contrary! I think most would agree it's crazy if you wouldn't go!

I haven't had that, but when I had an IDB voucher that was close to expiring, I took a quick weekend trip to London.
The voucher paid for almost all of the ticket, although not the taxes. A weekend was about all I wanted to afford (thanks Mr. Greenspan) when it came to paying for the hotel and miscellaneous stuff. That got a few people around the office making some assumptions about the size of my paychecks, and trying to figure out how I can afford to 'weekend' overseas.

Tourism Class....
I have had several people talk about how cool this event will be as well. In fact, I have some guests that are coming because of all the opportunites to see the behind the scenes stuff that they dont see as regular fliers.
I am also in a graduate tourism class were we have to go to an attraction or review a transportation source as it pertains to tourism. We are to do a hands on learning assignment were we actually see and do vs. reading about it. My professor tonight in class was talking about how there were so many aspects of this weekend that she finds interesting after reading the schedule. I can't wait for the event.
