AVOD on Flight

Folks,
Just wondering if the EWR-DEL or new EWR-BOM route has AVOD available. This is my first time into india and am flying the EWR-DEL route outbound on 09/27 and BOM-EWR on 10/30..

Thanks!
Prince

There are two CO 777s that have AVOD, but they are not assigned to any particular routes. So you have a chance, but it's not guaranteed I'm afraid...

There are three 777s with AVOD, confirmed - ships #010, 019, 020. Maybe four, but let's say three. One plane should be in the shop going through refurbishment and/or maintenance. So, your chance is about 3/19 right now. By the time you come back, it may be 4/19.

Are the 777's with AVOD the same that have a regular power plug in every seat?

Yes, the three 772s with AVOD has two regular 110V plugs per three seats. And one plug for 44AB and one for 44KL.

Last time I flew on one (in April), for whatever reason I cannot get power using a US two-prong plug. But no problem if I put a UK adapter in it first.

I sure wish they would let us know earlier. I'm com firmed in seat 17C which has EMPOWER but the last 7 rows are empty for a flight leaving in about 2 weeks.

If it were a newer version I would try and get one of the last rows to spread out and still have power/AVOD.

You will know about 48 hours before flight time. If power is so important to you, then stay where you are and only move after you see it's an AVOD plane.

I remember reading somewhere that 777's with AVOD have extra seats in BF compared to the 777's without. True? Any chance that can be identified by seat map we can pull up while we tkt on co.com?

Yes, AVOD planes have 6DE in BF, and 31DEF in coach. They don't have 28DEF.

However, the final seatmap only shows up about 48 hours before departure, so you can't know until 48-80 hours at the most.

["The most" meaning say you're flying CO98 HKG-EWR on 10:30am Thursday HK time. This is the plane that operates Tuesday's CO99 EWR-HKG. So, you can check at around 3pm Sunday ET to see if that plane has the extra seats or not.]

Disappointed in AVOD

I just got back LGW-IAH in one of the new 777's with row 6 installed. When I saw the seat map during checkin, they appeared. So now there are 50 BF seats rather than 48. I suppose that makes it easier to upgrade. (I got mine three days out)

I was disappointed in the AVOD because it did not have the current movies, only old ones. Or did I miss something? There were about 200, but nothing new. The screens were much larger though and the music selection was a great improvement and the sound quality was much better.

Also, there are only 3 lav's now in the BF cabin. I guess that is where they picked up the space for the extra two seats. There is only one on the right hand side, behind the galley.

That seems to be the opinion of previous 777 AVOD reviewers. See the FAQ post here for links to previous AVOD reviews.

My main gripe with the AVOD system is that all the movies are edited unless specifically stated that they are unedited.
