Cough Drop from FA
I received a throat lozenge from a FA flying EWR-LAX a few days ago as I couldn't stop coughing on a flight. I have two extra, but the writing was worn off and they worked SO well, I want to purchase some. The FA told me that they are the cough drops that are prescribed to them from the airline doctor as they don't affect their work and function very well. Anyone have a clue what they're called? They are green and in individual packaging. Thanks.

You're in luck. They're actually called "Trocaine," (Benzocaine) an OTC cough suppressant/lozenge you can find at your local pharmacy.

Surprising the FA offered you one. I was told last year it is against CO policy (in case you have an adverse reaction) to provide you aspirin, I assume lozenges would fall into this same category.

As a matter of fact, before she gave it to me, she expressly stated that she wasn't allowed to give me anything. I told her that I fully understood and would not hold her or the company liable for anything that happened to me. Its a cough drop, not a Valium.

Let's get real. If CO is going to spend time tracking down a FA using a FT User name and an LAX-EWR flight because of a cough drop, they've got real problems.

Actually, aspirin is in the *inflight customer care kit* and is meant for customer use.

I saw an FA give a passenger aspirin or advil from the "inflight customer care kit" last week -- a first in all my years of flying. I have seen many passengers ask over the years, and they usually get the "head shake/eye roll" response.

I have been offered aspirin and band aid when I once smashed my finger accidentally

Many (too many) years ago, I was given a Panadol by a BA FA on my first ever flight... LAX-LHR.
In my job, I had a manager that kept Tylenol in his desk, and everyone knew it. Whenever we asked for two (or three,) there was always the prepared speech: "I'm giving this to you as a friend, and not as a co-worker..."
We always laughed, but knew what he was doing.
