Upgrades
I did not get upgraded on my connection out of IAH, there are 7 seats available. Do they block them until day of departure?

Welcome to FT.

Please know, that just because you "see" seats an unassigned/available, that does not mean they are actually available. Many times people book flights, but do not complete a seating assignment.

Eddie, there are countless threads on upgrades here in this forum. Please do a search BY TITLE and read some recent experiences.
