Quickest to Platinum?

Just curious, i've been flying a lot lately, and I just qualified for gold 3 weeks ago. I expect to be at platinum before the end of april. Is that the fastest anybody got there? I'm sure someone got there in 1 month, instead of the 4 it took me. Just curious.

Also, once I qualify for platinum status, when do I have to requalify by? Do I have to start again in January '08? My understanding is that once I qualify, i'm at that status for 12 months starting the month I qualified in. Does this question make sense?

Also, if I'm already platinum, will I be able to utilize the 125% bonus elite miles to requalify, or do I have to start at non-elite?

IIRC, some of these maniacs make Plat in week one. I'm sure that your post will bring them out in droves to brag about it...

Earning platinum status now will be good through the end of February 2009. Yes, you will need to start over again in January 2008 to earn status for the following year.

And one of our very own did it in under 30 days...

You new Plat status will be valid until end of Feb 2009.

You need to get 75K EQM (or 90 EQP) during calendar year 2008 to maintain Plat status through Feb 2010.

Elite bonus are for spendable Onepass miles, not EQM. In general, you can only get EQM by flying (50% for cheap fares not bought on co.com; 100% for other fares; 150% for first/business class)

http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...e/qualify.aspx

Edit: MBM3 beat me to it.

Requalify

So I'd keep plat status for 2 years? When I got my gold elite card, it said valid thru 2/08, so I took that to mean 1 year. Or does plat status lend you more time?

And "No," the 125% bonus miles will not help you in 2008 to qualify for 2009. They only count Elite Qualification Miles (EQMs) normally earned at the flight mileage, sometimes at 50% for discounted fares if not purchased on continental.com, and sometimes with a 50% bonus if you purchase a FC, BF, Y, or other designated higher fare.

You're earning elite status for the next calendar year, which is 2008. A "2008 elite" status start whenever you qualify (for you, it's April 2007; for someone who fly 3.5 roundtrips in BusinessFirst to Hong Kong starting 1/1/07, he will earn it by around 1/6/07). Doesn't matter - this 2008 status will expire Feb 2009.

No difference between Silver, Gold or Plat.

The program year runs from March 1 through February 28th, though mileage accrual towards elite is based on the calendar year. So, whatever status you obtain by 12/31/07 is good through 02/28/09.

Your platinum card said valid through 2/08 because that's how they issue them year by year. You will receive a new card just before the one you just got expires that will be valid through 2/09.

When you earn status you are actually earning it for next year. As an added "courtesy" the carrier also extends the status for the remainder of this year.

You get a new card next year because CO changes the elite phone numbers every year and the information on the card would no longer be valid.

I am thinking of the fastest way to earn Plat elite status, on CO metal only.

All in BF (150% EQM):

1/1 CO98 HKG-EWR 12,090
1/1 CO84 EWR-TLV 8,538
1/2 CO85 TLV-EWR 8,538
1/2 CO104 EWR-ATH 7,422
1/3 CO105 ATH-EWR 7,422
1/3 CO104 EWR-ATH 7,422
1/4 CO105 ATH-EWR 7,422
1/4 CO104 EWR-ATH 7,422
1/5 CO105 ATH-EWR 7,422
1/5 FC on any domestic flight 868 flight mile or more

One will be done by around 7pm 1/5. That will give one Plat status for the remaining 25 months and 23 days.

14 days is the quickest for me

While I did not do it as quick as rkkwan hypothesized this year, I crossed the Plat line this year on 1/14/2007.

<shrug> what else are you suppose to do on Winter break?

What's the likely ticket cost on this hypothesized itinerary? And why ATH repeatedly? Why not somewhere else equally far or farther?
