could someone here tell me
CHS to LAS through EWR with checked lugage
in EWR at 8 a.m. on a Thur. getting from terminal C from an express jet to terminal A
what? should only take 15 min. or so
my normal is delta through ATL
thought i would give Con. a try for a change for the same money but little more time and the express jet
will get more qualifying miles

For starters, please use more descriptive thread titles. "EWR ?" fails to articulate the question you're trying to ask. Something along the lines of "Connection Times at EWR between Term A & C - How Long?" would better capture the question you're trying to ask.
And on that note, this topic has cropped up ever now and then and there's a handy-dandy tool called "search". You'd be surprised how much quicker you can fleece out answers from the collective postings of all the folks here rather than waiting for others to respond.
Moving on, as I understand it, you're connecting in EWR from CHS on your way to LAS and want to know how long the intra-terminal transit will take. It looks like flights from CHS (on ExpressJet) arrive at Terminal C, not terminal A (if memory serves, flights from ATL, DFW, ORD, BOS, DCA are the only ones to fly into Terminal A). The good news is that you'll already be in EWR's Terminal C and that you won't have to make use of any trams/buses or reclear security. That said, your estimate of 15mins sounds about right as all you'll have to do is walk from the ExpressJet "pylon" (that's the one in the middle on the afore linked EWR terminal map) to one of the other ones.
Should you want to stop to grab a bite or a book you should be good too as there are abundant eateries and shops in EWR.
Good luck in Vegas. ^

Search doesn't work really well on here, and I've never been able to find a "search tips" thread to give commands for advanced searches. Myself I get pretty tired to trying to search only to get 1500 threads unrelated to what I want to find since it will search individually for every word in your search. Its a lot easier to post a question and wait a half hour, by when several people will have replied with the exact information I need, rather than trying to fish through threads useless to me for a half hour only to find something that is partly related to my needs but could easily be outdated.

For starters if the OP would have looked at their ticket they would have seen that neither of their flights go in or out of Terminal A. But should a mistake have been made and the OP thought LAS or CHS operated out of A and wanted to find the transit time between the two EWR terminals a simple search of "EWR Connecting Terminal" yielded this thread: Connecting Terminal C to A at EWR. This directly answers the OP's question of "getting from terminal C from an express jet to terminal A". But should that thread have lacked the exact information the OP needed, posting a follow up question on that thread vis-à-vis starting a new, poorly-titled one would have allowed the group to contribute to the already existing discussion so when another person had the same question down the road all they would need to do is find that thread and not look all over FT for scattered bits of information.
Please do not read this as discouragement for folks posting as there’s a plethora of unanswered questions out there warranting new threads. However, in this case the subject had come up before – and had been answered before – thus the creation of another thread was, IMHO, redundant.

As an aside, the search function generally works fine for me. Sometimes, it does not work at all, which is a separate problem from receiving irrelevant results.
