I needed a non-stop one way flight in April and on ITA saw that Delta has exactly what I need. I had inadvertantly entered my query as a RT ticket and it priced out at $238. I only need the outbound leg as I'll be returning on CO.
Realizing my mistake, I re-entered the data to book the Delta flight one way, and it prices out at $405.
Can I buy the RT ticket and just use the outbound leg? I've never done this before and don't know if there are consequences.
Thanks for sharing your expertise here!

Technically, this is against the rules. If you just fly the outbound part, though, nobody is going to come after you. The only time they would is if you make a habit of doing this.

I was called on that once and told them I couldnt make the return flight because I was jailed for assaulting an airline employee, and would be glad to talk to them in 366 days.

Charge your credit card for the difference up to the one-way fare, rescind the miles you earned on that particular flight, or shut down your frequent flier account altogether.
But I'd say there's less than a 1% chance they'd do this in your situation.

I purposefully posted here (and not Delta) because I'm a CO plat, forced to fly Delta because they have the itinerary I need. I specifically wanted to hear answers answers from fellow CO elite flyers.
I bought the RT ticket -thx for the advice.

They could charge you or your travel agent the difference between the one-way ticket and the round-trip one on which you had thrown away a segment. They could also close/cancel your FF account. Such happenings are extremely rare.
