Lost & Found

I left an item on a CO flight SFO-EWR on 3/2. I called CO and filed a report. I was rudely told that if my item was located in EWR lost & found, I would get a call in 24-48 hours; otherwise "don't call back."

Of course, no call from CO. Given their attitude, I suppose no effort is made to look beyond EWR lost & found, such as the lost & found at the plane's next destination. I would expect the next passenger to find my item before the cleaning crew.

Anyway, my question -- is there somewhere I can find the bird number for my flight and its next destination? I thought I would at least have this information before I (God forbid) call again.

Thank you.

I recently lost an item at EWR. They said after 5 days all lost and found articles are sent to Houston and to call 1 800 335-BAGS and follow the prompts for lost articles. However glasses I was told from Newark employees are donated to charity.
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. Fortunately (maybe), my item wasn't glasses.

If it was a cell phone, I'd give it a good 99.95% chance it's in the dominican republic. Thats where my phone wound up (I even realized I left it on the plane, and they wouldn't let me go back to get it !

Lost and found at EWR is heinous.

Are they even CO employees? Their attitudes are the worst of any customer service organization I've encountered.

I'd like to see Larry Kellner send some of his staff (incognito, of course) through EWR on a few busy mornings to experience check-in and the attitudes of the agents there. They should wait in line at baggage lost and found and see this behavior first-hand.

Good luck with finding your lost item.

Yes when I called they said they were Continental employees. Did you know that TSA no longer sends their items left at security to Continental .They now have their own lost and found department located close to the airport.
I am sure it is the size of a department store by now. They also have an answering machine stating leave name and detailed message and they will call you ONLY if you item is found.

This has been discussed before. Lost and Found at EWR is atrocious. There seems to be no way to file a report and get something back, even of little value to someone who might take it. Although I'm sure some high value things are stolen, I think that the system is such that they don't really try and match the stuff they have against callers. They're not even interested in knowing what flight you were on.

I use to travel MetroNorth commuter trains between Grand Central and Scarsdale daily. Over the years, I probably left stuff on the train at least a dozen times ranging from raincoats to umbrellas to cell phones and briefcases, and I don't think there was more than once or twice that I didn;t get my stuff back. They had a central Lost and FOund at Grand Central. Everything was tagged by train # and date, and even prior to being computerized they had a card system that was able to match you up with your lost item if you knew what train it was lost on.
