J3 D2 means 3 seats. CO will sell 2 (of those 3) seats for a D-fare. If CO sells 3 seats, BF is full.

Thats what I thought, except when I did it for 2 last night it showed me a J fare and not a D fare for them.

The purchase that you were attempting may not have been available as a D. If there were minimum/maximum stay or advance purchase requirements the D wouldn't show for making a purchase. But it would be listed as available in the GDS in case someone wanted to change an existing D seat.

I have no issues with the OP not getting the upgrade in advance. Can't tell you how many times I needed to BUY a J fare (not D, Z or R...but J) last minute, and it wasn't available for me.

What I do have a problem is CO's policy of letting the seat go empty! If 30 minutes before flight time they know there will be no more purchasers, why NOT give it to the waitlisted upgraders? I heard a while ago the reason was to prevent people from making bogus J bookings so as to keep the seat open for their upgrades. But it seems far fetched to me. Other carriers don't see this as an issue...

I'm in a similar situation - waitlisted for CO 84 Today... At least 4 seats available for purchase as I can tell.

How many hours prior to the flight is the last cycle?

The last cycle has ended. 24 hrs before the flight the waitlist is Deleted as one can not Upgrade within 24 hrs of an Intl flight.

If however you have a BF free tkt but were only able to get a coach seat, then you can request that BF seat at the airport, as JE put it a misplaced BF customer.

So if you were on a Y or H hoping to get BF sorry its past the deadline for that you will be sitting in Coach. Make sure they put the miles back into your acct. Dont know if they refund the $$ you had to pay if on anything but an H or Y.

Edit; Just checked seatcounter.com it shows at least 9 seats available. If this wasnt caused by some last min cancellations or is a mistake, its very SAD that CO didnt put the UP yesterday. I can understand that they might feel they could sell 2 or 3 last min but not 9. Also went to co.com and was able to purchase 8 BF seats for the 84 for today, if I had wanted to CO was willing to sell them so, SC must be correct with at least 9 being available. Hard for me to believe that at least 5 people changed their plans within the past 18 hrs

It really is sad if indeed those seats up front did go empty. I know its a yield managment game but if they could not get any revenue why not go for the good will game and upgrade? I know UA does sell upgrades at the gate, and that has its own issues, but they would not let seats go empty in the front IMHO.

I'm hoping my upgrade from EWR-LGW in June clears. My May ones cleared no problem and the return in June cleared no problem but outbound still has not.

Cheers

well its now 3 hrs before AVIZs flight and CO will still sell me 8 BF seats, a very sad situation not only for AVIZ who probably will be stuck in the back, but for all of Us if CO decides for whatever reason not to allow an UP to happen even thou BF is at least 20% empty.

I dont which fare basis AVIZ is on but if they purchased a H or Y figuring with an empty BF cabin they would be UPed, they learnt a hard lesson, unless H or Y is the cheapest fare out there NEVER buy it Unless at the time of purchase BF can be Confirmed.

Thanks for your responses. I'm in EWR PC now- heading to TLV to bury my brother in law who passed away from Leukimia. In the large scheme of things it won't hurt me to sit in coach, but being that the past few days I haven't slept and have gone through this tragedy, I was kind of hoping to get some rest. Oh well, 32B it is. Doesn't make any sense that CO likes to fly with empty seats in BF; maybe one of you fine folks can bring it up to LK at the next DO.

Regards,

avi

I'm sorry for your loss. Travelin is often stress ful but when traveling for a reason such as yours it only adds to the stress. I'm sorry you did not get your BF seat.
