Thumbs up Upgrade from Full Y

Ok, I admit, it's been a while since I've had any status AND it's been a longer while since I've purchased a full Y that's upgradable if you're an elite.

I just did, and the upgrade process worked beautifully and seamlessly.

I made my reservation, went back into it, and there was the nice little check box to request the upgrade to F. I did so and the system reassigned my seat to an aisle in F, based upon my preferences.

I'm sure you've all done this lots of time, but it was my first time, and worked perfectly. ^^

Glad you were able to put a Y-Up to good use. Do be aware, though, that often it can actually be cheaper to book an R fare than to book full Y (assuming R fares are available on the route for the date and time you need). By booking an R fare (an actual First fare class), you also protect yourself in the event of missed connections or equipment swaps. In such cases, you would then be treated as a displaced F passenger. As a Y-Up passenger, you might end up flying in the back of the bus under such circumstances.

Whether Y is cheaper than available F fare classes depends on the route. However, I was recently able to book IAH-SJU with an R fare at approx. $750 all-in. The Y fare on the route was selling for over $1,000

I was aware of the other options, but it's only full Y going one way. The return is in K or some other highly discounted fare, so this probably was the least expensive option.

I'm just thrilled it worked

I was mistaken..

They're calling it "U" and there's a notation next to it "shuttle service". I never saw that one before

Where is the segment from/to? Does this refer to the terminal A/C shuttle at EWR? I'm curious as well!

Geez, Amtrak codeshares, and now "shuttle"?

Hope you're not riding the Dirty Dog Mary, first class there is a seat away from the guy who just urinated on himself.

---

Good to hear the system worked for someone for once. I myself snagged a badly needed last-minute u/g to an F seat on a last-minute walk-up fare out of LAS last Friday. I slept like a baby.

Needed it, too. Vegas.

I'm pretty sure "U" refers to a fare class on the Delta Shuttle (i.e., LGA-BOS/DCA). Not sure how it found its way into your reservation. Technically it should be "AU", which is an elite upgrade from a full Y fare.

It's MCO-EWR and the website did not say it was a codeshare. It's the 10:30am flight (#693).

I made 2 reservations on that flight. One on CO.com for my husband, which is not noted as "shuttle service" and one thru my corporate travel agent in which it is. They are both "U"s.

Granted the EWR-MCO runs do feel like a shuttle, but I've never seen it noted that way.

BTW - this leg wasnt' upgraded. The outbound was, and it's noted as AY (I think).

Dont worry you are on CO metal, I dont even think that CO & DL code-share in this market.

As for the MCO-EWR flight you should have booked the 9:00am flight in as much as its a 757-200 so its the BF seats up front with all the leg-room and great seats. While you're on a 737-800 and not much to say about them FC seats except they are 2 across, but I find more leg room in the exit row then I do up there.

whew... thanks. I took the 10:30 am flight so I can sleep in a bit. I'll be attending a conference earlier in the week and my husband is joining me for a bit of R&R. I can deal with coach for a couple of hours .

Anytime I book a U fare on CO from my corporate travel agent it says "Shuttle Service" instead of "Economy" next to the description. Don't worry about it. It's just a random description that doesn't really mean much of anything. It's just a regular U fare, which earns 1 EQP and 100% EQMs on CO.
