What's with all the flight changes recently?

I've always traveled with Continental (well, when it's been the option, anyway...) and I've NEVER had as much trouble as I've been experiencing recently.

On September 23rd, I booked an outbound direct flight from Houston (IAH) to Vancouver (YVR) and an inbound direct flight from YVR to IAH. Within a week, the second leg of my journey was cancelled (or changed and I couldn't make the new flight I was automatically stationed on) and I had to go with a one-stop flight. Now on my return flight, I go from YVR to Seattle (SEA) and then SEA to IAH.

Okay, so they do that. I'm not happy, but that's life, right?

Well, just recently, they changed the times of both legs of my journey--cancelling one entirely! Originally, I had a morning-to-afternoon flight, headed from IAH to YVR and they cancelled that and stuck me on a late-night flight the same day. I can't make that! That completely wrecks my schedule! In addition, they made minor changes to the second leg of my flight (SEA to IAH) and changed the times there as well.

I realize stuff like this happens (and I've already taken care of it the best I can by calling up Continental; I just hope nothing else gets changed again or cancelled, as I can't take much more of this nor can my schedule), but they should have at LEAST notified me (and other passengers) by e-mail or something. What if I wasn't as compulsive as I am and didn't check my online itinerary as often as I do? What then? I'd be screwed, that's what.

My fiancee says she's seriously thinking about using a different airline next time, as her faith in Continental is rapidly decreasing...

Has anyone else been subject to frequent and off-the-wall flight changes and/or cancellations like this recently? I'm not looking for sympathy or anything. I'm just, more or less, venting and asking if others have experienced the same from Continental in the past month or so. Even if it's been longer than a month, share your story!

I got a message of a flight change that didn't change at all. No equipment change. No schedule change. Nothing. Kind of odd. Oh, and it's showing duplicate entries for the flight in question. It is booked in F, and they seem to be having issues with the change from R to F for the upgrade bucket. I also spent over an hour and a half on the elite line trying to book it.

And now with this newfound vigor for enforcing the plat-only exit row prereserve rule ( I know there's a thread, I just wanted to make an aside) I don't know about CAL. They really need to add SOME benefit for mid-tier elites other than a doubling of the RDM bonus (amongst many other problems). And I would go for plat, but with my flying patterns, I just can't justify making the MRs nec. to get there. Oh well.
