Schedule changes

CO changed my SJC-IAH flight on 12/22 from a ~1420 departure to a ~1217 departure, which I can't make. Unfortunately the 1217 is now the last flight out. However, I can make a 1225 out of Sacramento on the same day. Will CO allow me to rebook? If not and I have to stay an extra day is asking for a voucher or a hotel room as compensation too much to ask?

Thanks!

I've never read CO's contract of carriage, but most airlines' contracts provide that if the schedule changes by a "signficiant" margin (and I'd say two hours is significant), they will try to change it to something palatable to you, or they'll refund the ticket. Generally, however, they are only required to get you from A to B, and if A is SJC, then they certainly aren't required to change your ticket to SMF.

That said, your request to change it to SMF isn't at all unreasonable, they may very well be willing to do it (especially if the SMF flight isn't too heavily sold). But if they aren't willing, all you can ask for is a refund. I highly doubt they'll give you a hotel voucher.

SMF isn't usually considered an alternate airport to SJC. If you asked for SFO or OAK, you'd most certainly get it. You may have to try a bit harder to get SMF.

Ask and ye shall receive...

Absolutely no problem changing departure airport to SMF.

Thanks for the replies.
