ERJ Bathroom Issues

This past month, I have flown twice on ERJs where prior to boarding they've announced the bathroom was not working. Both trips were a good haul for an ERJ (YYZ-IAH and CRW-IAH). With only one bathroom in the plane, this can become a real issue for someone with a bladder problem.
Has anyone also experienced an increase of bathroom outages in the ERJs?

Huh?? They actually flew a 3+ hour flight (YYZ-IAH) with no lav when they knew prior to departure that the lav was not working? Why didn't they sub in some equipment? It seems that that would be against some FAA reg.

I would refuse to fly on any aircraft with no lav. Period. I would have demanded a reroute.

This is only one rest room on the RJ. The wash basin is usually out of service, the toilet is an open hole.

If the only rest room is out of order - the flight should be cancelled - period.

AFAIK there is only one bathroom on ERJ - one at the very end, and everybody including pilots have to use that one.
(There is a jumpseat in front of that lav so non-rev on sold out ERJ usualy stay up in galley during the flight.)

Am I wrong ?

This is incorrect. There is only one in the rear of the aircraft - door is flat against the back wall. When you enter the restroom, the toilet is on the left and the sink (that often is not working and is stocked with saniwipes in lieu of water) is on the right. There definitely is not a restroom in the front of the aircraft. See, e.g., http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...ft/erj145.aspx

Again, doesn't operating a 3.5 hour flight without a restroom seem like it's against some FAA regulation? Maybe someone has offhand knowledge whether that's the case.

I have flown American Eagle from DFW to TYS with an aircraft having the lav inop. They made this clear before boarding and gave the option to take a later flight. Almost all decided to take the flight.

YES, It certainly seems like it. It sounds a little funny if it's at the airline's sole discrection to operate a flight without a working lavatory. And then it's supposed to be made up by "offering" you to wait for the next flight? Wait for how many hours? And given what compensation?

I don't know about FAA regs but I have been in sitations in Europe on more than one occasion where the flight has been delayed and subsequently had a change of equipment due to a non-op lavatory. I'm pretty sure the airline wouldn't take these steps unless it had to.

I flew PHL-CHS on a Dornier 328 (remember those) with an inop restroom before. A pregnant lady asked the GA who asked the GA if she could use a cup. Sure enough - she did right after take off. Under her blanket. And handed it to the FA to dispose of.

I've been on flights that have been delayed due to fixing inoperative lavs - mainline flights with more than one lav and under 3.5 hours duration.

Express Jet seems to be a bit slow on cabin maintenance and cleaning this year. Their planes have been getting shaby.

I do a lot of work in smaller communites served by regional carriers. I think Express Jet dba CO Express is among the best, but they do seem to be slacking lately. I haven't had the no lav experience yet!

BTW, I flew LAX-MFR last week on a Horion Q-400. Its like a stretch d-8. the stupid seats don't recline! What's up with that! J

I do not think I have ever been on an RJ where the restroom was fully operational - that is the wash basin. With the unrelability of the restroom - what about the rest of the aircraft?
