Shop-Rite for onepass miles [2009 program changes][threads merged]
Hey, I was wondering if anyone else here has their Shop-Rite price plus number attached to their onepass account. I have been in the program since its inception have earned over 12,000 miles just from Shop-Rite. (It's the only supermarket I go to- and I am always grocery shopping!) While it's exciting to earn airline miles for buying what I would buy anyway- and I absolutely mean that. It's not like I think let me buy the bigger milk to earn more miles, or I think I'll splurge on a 25-ib. turkey for dinner in order to get to Florida quicker.
But, it's a bit disconcerting that I'm only half-way to a flight. I assume the program is mostly for very frequent fliers who get that little extra bump in their miles by- without even thinking about it - having their Shop-Rite club card attached to their account. Does anyone know how successful and popular this program is? I assume it's pretty popular (probably more so in NJ, where Shop-Rites are ubiquitous and we all know CO is THE carrier at EWR) as it keeps on getting extended. Is Shop-Rite for OnePass miles here to stay? Does anyone have any stories on how much they earned with it and/or stories of extravagant Shop-Rite purchases in order to earn more miles? |
I do!..Im in the ShopRite for OnePass Miles in Philadelphia..new change..they post 125 miles now for every $250 you spend..instead of just posting miles every month.

Best Parts
While I enjoy the drips and drabs of mileage that comes through (I've spent about $10,000 at ShopRite since the program started), there are some nice perks albeit small ones with regards to what earns mileage:
-OnePass miles are given to pre-coupon totals and pre-ShopRite PricePlus Card discounts. So even though you may redeem $50 in coupons on a $200 order, and also have a $25 free PricePlus turkey in your cart, you'll get $225 in credit towards the OnePass program -You can triple dip + more when buying ShopRite gift cards. So if you buy a $100 gift card, you'll get $100 worth of OnePass credit + another $100 worth of OnePass credit when you redeem the card (assuming you use your PricePlus card for each transaction.) Use a CO Chase card for the giftcard purchase and earn even more miles. (Although Amex/Shoprite promotions are often better than CO Chase ones.) -You can earn OnePass miles for prescription purchases + FSA expenses. While the Drugstore.com link on the CO shopping partners site usually yields more dollars, you can earn OnePass mileage for buying the same things at ShopRite ...often pre-insurance / pre-FSA expense rates earn the dollars. So theoretically, if you have a $150 prescription with a $10 co-pay, you'll earn mileage on the $150 purchase. -You can continue earning other awards/credits in other existing programs... like their KidsClub, uPromise, and so on. While 1 mile per $2 spent is still very, very tiny, it's nice to squeeze additional mileage out of these every day types of expenses. And while the mileage earnings are tiny, even with the perks listed above, it's enough to keep me from shopping at a place other than ShopRite. (However, things will get interesting when a Wegmans, the regional equivalent of the grocery store holy grail, opens later this spring nearby :D ) |
Here is what I do. I have my onepass account number associated with my shoprite number which gives me 1 mile for ever $2 spent. Chase Continental World card (not sure about the others) is giving double miles for all purchases at shoprite. This gives me a total of 2.5 onepass miles for every dollar spent at Shoprite.

-Vincent Where are the putting the Wegmans? Since I moved down to Monmouth County I haven't been in Wayne in a while. I use the card. In fact my fiance, her mother, her mother's boyfriend and my parents all use my card. I keep getting more and telling people to use mine. I get them their turkeys, so they don't care. As for how long, the program keeps getting extended. It used to always say till a specific date. Now it doesn't. Looks like its here to stay! |

There is no Wegmans I know of openning up around me here in the Wayne area, ever since they closed Kings I have to go all the way to Ridgewood. I shop at Shoprite (with like 9 people using my ShopRite Card) for dry type goods and sale stuff, everything else comes from Kings or Stop and Shop. Weatherboy mentioned a Wegmans openning up - where is he located? -Vincent |
Wegmans is in both Bridgewater and Manalapan. I think a new store recently opened in Ocean Twp. There's also a Kings in (near?) Short Hills near where 24 hits 78.

I for one love this program. No, it's not a ton of miles. But what the heck. You gotta buy food, so you can never complain when you get free miles (no matter how few) for something you need to buy anyway...

Then the same woman will practicaly run you over in the parking lot with her $80K BMW 7 series.

I was amazed when I first moved to the area and went into the supermarket and there were women in sweat suits under their very expensive mink coats. :D As for Wegmans. Yes, it's good - for about the first year. They hook you with outstanding produce and other freshly made items, like the bread. After that, the produce becomes slightly better than ordinary, at the same price, and the loaves of bread get smaller. I still shop there, but not exclusively. It can get mighty expensive, though it is better than the average supermarket. I think they excel at prepared foods, which take up about 1/3 of the store. |

That's the ticket... nice for a monthly top off. |
Same thing at randall's in houston.. but I find randall's prices to be higher than the local kroger, even if the selection is better.

Not that it's a huge bonus, but if you're already signed up and your spouse is not, you can sign the spouse up for his/her own card and get 1,000 bonus points if you do it before the end of March. That's the equivalent of $2000 worth of groceries, so in the context of this meager program, it's a good percentage bonus.

Well... It looks like the program will change in 2009.
At the bottom of my receipt it states: "NEW PROGRAM STARTS 1/1/09 WITH THREE MONTH CYCLES. SPEND AT LEAST $1000 EACH CYCLE TO QUALIFY AND EARN 1 ONEPASS MILE PER $2 IN QUALIFYING PURCHASES. MORE ON WWW.SHOPRITE.COM" It was good while it lasted. Well, without the new rules anyway. |

I guess if you've got a large family, shop exclusively at Shoprite, buy a lot of non-sale items, and don't travel too much during the quarter, you might occasionally qualify. :p Of course, I don't blame them from pulling back. I mean, is there ANYBODY who actually switched their loyalty or bought more from Shoprite because of this promo? It couldn't be too many folks. So they were just giving us a few miles and getting very little in return. If I were Shoprite and I wanted to stay affiliated with OnePass, I'd do it more creatively. Like sign up for a promo whereby if you double your spending the next quarter, you'd get 1000 miles. That MIGHT bring them some extra business. Maybe. |

NorthEast Shop-Rite customers
We're being Enhanced!!:mad::td:
As of 1/1/09 SR will now run on a 3 month cycle. So on 4/1, 7/1 & 10/1 they will reset your total shopping Dollars to $0. From 1/1 before you get 1 mile you must spend $1000 then you will get 500 miles, no more 125 miles for every $250 after originally spending $500. Then 1 mile per $2. So spend $950 by 3/31 on 4/1 you start fresh with $0 and earned a total of 0 miles for Q1 Till now ones total was on going till you hit the $250 level and 125 miles was sent to CO, I believe it might have carried forward yr to yr as well, dont remember for sure. " Our new program, with three month earning cycles, will be in effect starting Jan 1, 2009. You can earn 1 CO mile for every$2 spent when your qualifying purchases reach $1000 by the end of each 3 month cycle." |
This sounds like ShopRite "enhancing" the program more than CO (why would CO care about the details so long as SR is buying the miles).
Anyhow, there is no such restrictions for Safeway earning UA or AS miles. Then again, I'd much rather have ShopRite's lower NJ food prices and no miles than what I pay for groceries at Safeway in NorCal with the few miles Safeway throws at us. ;) |

Yep SR is 1 of the lowest price wise, and its not only Safeway, I get sticker shock in any supermarket when Im in LAS,PHX or Cali. although Food for Less helps out but they are limited in what Im looking for |

This was brought up last week, I think.

This is another way to take full advantage of this program. |

This is bad news for me. My monthly average spent in ShopRite this year was about $250, and the monthly 125-mile deposit was great to keep my wife's OnePass account active.
I'm also shopping more these days at Wegman's because they have a much better selection of organic produce (the more I read about pesticides the more I'm willing to pay the premium for organic). I might have bumped into a few of you there since I also shop in Bridgewater, NJ. |

I didn't know the program had changed. I've been getting miles from Shop Rite for quite some time, but I never really kept up with how much it adds up to. Mrs. CS does all the grocery shopping (at Bridgewater Shop Rite - looks like she may have run into some of you).
Just did some quick checking of past online statements. Prior to this year, 250 miles per month was the most common for me. 375 was the highest month and 125 was the lowest. To-date in 2009, I have three entries: 566, 218 and 309. In total, in the past two years (as far back as the online statements are available), I've earned 6,093 OP miles from this program. Not too shabby for doing something we'd be doing, anyway. :) |

Having said that, I don't eat enough to support the spend per quarter, so it will be a stretch to keep earning miles that will actually post. It was a nice bonus, since I would've shopped at SR anyway. |
