Separate Or Together For U/g
What is best to do if you are gold elite on CO and want to list for u/g from ewr to mia but have a none elite companion? I dont want to u/g if we cannot both clear, but by then if i am upgraded, i will have lost my chosen seat in coach.
If i dont u/g in advance and keep us both on the same record, will the GA let us both u/g at the airport?
Is this a good idea or should we have separate records?
tks

Have you taken a look at the seat map to see how FC looks?
When are you flying?
Now I haven't done Florida since the fare war with JetBlue but I would imagine that with rts at 128.00 and FC at $638.00 it is probably tougher to score the UG.
I would seperate records as the previous poster noted in hope of scoring the EUA. Then try to get the companion UG at the airport. If you fail to get the comp. UG and prefer to sit with your companion in coach I'm pretty sure you could get the person in your old seat to take your FC seat.
With all things considered I think the odds might be against you on this one.

FC looks good actually as it is the 7am flight on Dec 20.
but i think i will do separate records and take a chance.
or...i could do american for 100 dollars more where we are both gold and use stickers for UG

Why wouldn't they?
FC almost full = less seats.
FC almost empty = more seats.
Then throw in the usual ingredients of fare class, route, day of travel, other elites etc and I think it at least gives you an idea.
It can certainly dispel any glimmer of hope of an UG when you see a full FC seat map and an almost full flight right?

You need to look at how many seats the airline is willing to sell to know what your real chances are for an upgrade.
Good Info.
Tks.

book together, then separate
you can book the 2 pax together as one reservation, and then use Continental's new "Separate the Reservation" feature after you have booked and the e-ticket has been issued. Gives you the advantage of having the Platinum book, assign exit row seats and such, but then split into 2 PNRs so that at least the Plat gets upgraded.

just got an upgrade confirmation for that exact flight next week from a $140 RT x-fare - sweet. i am flying alone this time, but i run into the same problem when i travel with my wife - i am gold and she is silver. i don't separate the reservation and hope that we will both get upgraded when they get to silvers.

if you seperate the reservation, does anyone know what date they use for the EUA (i know date booked is the tiebreaker for same fare class)...because if you seperate the reservation, somehow i see a new date confusing EUA very easily.

i was just offered to separate at online checkin
My non-elite hubby is cool with it if I'm upgraded to First Class and he isn't. When I just did online check-in at Continental as a NW Gold, the computer offered me an upgrade to First Class and said it would go ahead and separate our records and give me a new confirmation number if I wanted it since my husband didn't qualify for the upgrade. That seemed like a nice gesture of them to ask instead of just leaving me in coach because I was flying with a non-Elite but got too busy to call and request our records be separated.
Is this a new thing? Never noticed it before.

I have a similar question, and glad I found this thread without having to post a new one.
My family (6 of us) are flying MSP-DCA 12/18 returning 12/23. We have 2 NW Platinums, one NW Gold, and three non-elite members all in the same reservation. Will the advance elite upgrade system pass over the elites? On NW I have found if you are an elite traveling with a non-elite in the same reservation it passes over the elite.
Thank you for your help.
