For those who care, the status of the 757 aircraft at Continental is as follows:

There are 41 X 757 aircraft in the fleet

There are 15 in BusinessFirst Config without winglets (16/156) ships 101, 102, 103, 104, 107, 113, 117, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 135 and 136

There are 15 in standard Domestic config (24/159) ships 108, 110, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 137, 138, 139 and 141

There are 11 in BusinessFirst config (16/156) with winglets. Ships 105, 106, 109, 111, 112, 114, 115, 116, 118, 134, 140

There are 3 equipped with AVOD (16/159). Ships 106, 111, 112

In January, ships 123, 124, 138 will convert to BF (16/159) with AVOD.

Flew FLL-->IAH last week on an AVOD equipped 757. The system is very, very nice. It is definately LINUX based (the FA had to reboot it, so all the screens displayed the boot process). The system offers touchscreen controls, wide-aspect screen, and good resolution. A very nice job, indeed.

The audio quality was nothing special, and really no different than the older systems - it would be nice if they upgraded to better sound or headsets to match the new system.

One design note: the screen and arm are bigger, so the top covering doesn't completely close - this leaves your (or your neighbor's) drink at a precarious angle if you place the cup there. Use caution during turbulence, or when your neighbor seems to have nonstop arm spasms designed to send the cup flying.

If the system is made by Rockwell Collins it is programed in Linux just like their other AVOD systems.

When CO comes out with live satellite TV then I'll be happy.

don't really care about satellite TV service. Wireless internet is far more important, flyertalk @ 35,000 ft

Satellite TV doesn't work outside the continental US. It probably isn't a wise choice for an international airline...

I agree. I would love the ability to surf and work while travelling back from Europe!

Y is fine is there is no one in the seat next to me, especially a cottage-cheese arm blobbo that needs parts of my seat too. Its slightly more annoying than sitting next to a full of himself Plat, who has to have his cell on well after the second warning, and has to fire it up as soon as the wheels hit the runway so others notice how important he thinks he is

Or the person on the cellphone who has to point out that they are sitting on a plane

Is it less annoying when the person who has his phone out the second the wheels hit the runway is not a plat?
