Allowable Fare Class to Standby for Upgrade

I was told last weekend that my fare class was not eligible to standby for a space aailable upgrade, despite being Silver. Is this true? If so, what classes are eligible for EUA and for space-available?

If space is available, as a silver you are eligible for an upgrade from any paid fare class, including ultradiscounted. Check your elite packet or the elite section of the website.

Was it one of Continental's last minute weekend fares? Was it a ticket booked on Hotwire or Priceline?
