This is a bit chinsey, but on my return flight from Detroit to SAN (NW metal on CO web purchase)on 1/4, the plane left Detroit after being de-iced, and shortly thereafter, the pilot, announced that he had a landing gear problem and that he has to fly around to burn off 44,000 of fuel in order to make landing the plane possible. So we flew around a while and landed in Minneapolis amongst the waiting fire trucks to change planes. I guess NW repair facility is in MN. I got home 6 hours late-- but all in one piece.
Will CO ever credit me with the extra segment or the extra 500 miles, or is it to chinsey to bother with???? And will CO ever slap the lady behind me who saw the fire trucks and thought we were all going to die???

I don't think so. I was on a CMH - IAH flight that had to go to Cleveland first for a repair. I didn't get 500 miles for the CMH - CLE flight nor the segment....

My understanding is that if the flight number stays the same you will not get credit for additional segment / miles.

You're not going to get the bonus because of the extra stop, specifically; but often airlines will give bonus miles to their FF members when there's major mechanical problems, and yours certainly sounded like one. However, I don't know if the airlines still do this - as my experience was a a few years back - and I don't know if CO will compensate you for problems on another airlines' metal.

Last Oct during the CA wildfires, I had a wildfire-related delay of about 3 hours from LAX-EWR. I got multiple text messages throughout the day apprising me of the status - in addition to one that advised me I would receive 500 miles as a result of the delay.

Interestingly, it booked as a "Trip Alert Bonus", so I don't know if I would have gotten the delay miles withought having signed up for Trip Alert.

Perhaps you are making an incentive for the airline to crash. It won't cost them anything and their insurance will pick up the lawsuits.

Seriously be happy you are alive.. It wasn't like a mechanical problem delaying your flight. it occured while you were on the plane.. You are alive. Be Happy.

Many of us worried for days about friends and relatives exposed to the San Diego fires. Be very glad you had no problem worse than a mechanical diversion to MSP in January, and a stupidly hysterical fellow passenger.

Sorry, but I would. If a ferry, AMTRAK, Greyhound, or any other transport breaks down due to a mechanical problem, I don't see any of you not think you should get a compensation. Why different if it's a plane?

You mean the fires that stopped just 3/4 of a mile away from house, and because my house didnt burn down, my insurance was cancelled??Is that the fire

Expect the insurance would also have been cancelled if your house had burned; you're not actually supposed to collect on insurance, you know, or it ruins their business plans.
