someone please explain "switch at the gate"

Hi everyone, happy new year. Could someone please explain the "switch at the gate" for me. I think I understand what it is but not how it works. It would be neat to try, as I too have left CO.....

This refers to using your CO Status to obtain upgrades, then switching the FF # to NW to build status on NW.

1. Make your reservation using your CO #.
2. At Check-in, ask the agent to put your NW # in your record.

Be careful when purchasing CO Flights, not all fare classes earn 100% EQM's on NW.

unless folks have had a different experience lately, I think you run the risk of losing your NWA (or CO) upgrade if you remove the FF number whose status granted you the upgrade.

Typically the CO agents have an issue with this... but NWA agents just smile....use the kiosk or internet checkin and you shouldn't have a problem

Why would you care? You only fly Alaska now.
