CO is at it again
Hi everyone, I am very happy now in Alaskaland. Did some checking up on CO and they have changed the playing field again.
Remember the fuss a while back about elite members being shut out of a bonus on Virgin flights? a few months ago they amended the site to allow for the bonus through june 04. Not any more.
CO has again changed the website
Here's what the "earn miles" section at co.com sez....
http://www.continental.com/onepass/earn/air.asp
Virgin Atlantic Airways
Travel Area for Mileage Accrual: All Virgin Atlantic-operated flights systemwide
Earn: Actual miles or a minimum of 500 miles. Earn a 50% mileage bonus in Upper Class.
====================
But wait, thats not the story (or one of the stories) I have been told.........
=====================
then over in the "elite bonuses" section
http://www.continental.com/onepass/elite/bonuses.asp
Elite Mileage Bonuses
Elite members have the opportunity to earn OnePass miles toward rewards much faster than other members. Each Elite level receives a mileage bonus in addition to actual flight miles earned:
125% mileage bonus for Platinum Elite members
100% mileage bonus for Gold Elite members
50% mileage bonus for Silver Elite members
An Elite mileage bonus is earned by Elite members every time they travel with a qualifying paid fare on these participating airlines and partners:
((((nw, dl, as, and so on and then what we want to know))))
Continental code-share flights operated by other airlines (ticketed as Continental) excluding Virgin Atlantic flights
NOTE THE WORD "EXCLUDING" THIS IS NEW. IT WAS NOT THERE 2 WEEKS AGO.
and just for fun, run it through the mileage calculator:
Mileage Calculator Results
Flight Mileage
From To Miles
Boston, MA (BOS) London/ Heathrow GB (LHR) 3,265
Bonus Mileage
Bonus Bonus Miles
50% Silver Elite Bonus 1,632
Total Mileage: 4,897
===================
side note....does the mileage calculator know that CO is not allowed to serve LHR............
=====================================
CO has again given me the screw. I dont know if anyone else is in a similar situation, but I am on my last thread with CO. Yes I know there is nothing I can do that will change CO. They have robbed me. I hope they enjoy the spoils of their efforts when they see all those empty seats that would have been occupied by me. As a consumer I feel ripped off, and I have no one to complain to. As a legal student, I know the burden is VERY high to prove wrongdoing on their part. But I feel its there.
Please be informed consumers .....

As of a month ago, the website was posting:
Continental code-share flights operated by other airlines (ticketed as Continental) excluding Virgin Atlantic flights*
* Elite Mileage bonuses will be awarded on Virgin Atlantic flights (ticketed as Continental) for travel through December 31, 2003.
Please review this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum20/HTML/009731.html

Please read through:

((((nw, dl, as, and so on and then what we want to know))))
But what you want to know is right there:
Calculated against the actual flight miles of each segment flown, an Elite mileage bonus is earned by Elite members every time they travel with a qualifying paid fare on these participating airlines and partners:
Air Europa
Alaska Airlines
Amtrak (select routes)
Azteca Airlines
British European (flyBE.)
Continental Airlines
Continental Connection (Gulfstream International and CommutAir)
Continental Express
Continental Micronesia
Copa Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines (interisland flights only)
Horizon Air
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
Northwest Airlines
Northwest Airlink
SNCF/TGV (Continental flights connecting at Charles de Gaulle)
Continental code-share flights operated by other airlines (ticketed as Continental) excluding Virgin Atlantic flights
Elite members also may earn Elite mileage bonuses on Delta Air Lines, Delta Shuttle and Delta Connection flights (excluding Delta Song flights and Delta Connection flights operated by American Eagle). Bonuses for these airlines are as follows:
100% mileage bonus for Platinum and Gold Elite members
25% mileage bonus for Silver Elite members
I don't see Virgin mentioned anywhere in this page so I guess they are not getting any bonuses. If I had a doubt about this, I would pick up the phone and call - not rely on the calculator to tell me what the detailed information page doesn't.
As far as the calculator, I guess it can be more accurate to the little details.
