The Extra Mile

I would like to hear what others think about The Extra Mile promotion. Assuming you actually fly enough to earn all the bonus miles, it's essentially like buying miles at a cost of $8.33 per thousand for the 5,000 mile level, $9.09 per thousand at the 10,000 mile level, and about $9.38 per thousand at the 15,000 mile level (I am figuring in the 1,000 mile bonus awarded for signing up). I'm debating whether or not this is worth doing especially since it is becoming more and more difficult for me to use miles for ugrades without having to pay other fees or buying higher priced tickets. Any thoughts on this?

C'mon now... 74 posts and a Nov 2003 registration date. :lightbulb: By golly, we might have a NEW PERSON here! So, ever think of being courteous to the people who're just getting settled in and figuring the place out???

But then the self appointed topic police might lose their sense of purpose for coming here. I mean how would they keep their post count up if they can't point fingers at those who don't follow their own personal rules of forum etiquette? </sarcasm>

Thank you kanebear and anthonyanthony for coming to my defense. I'll admit that I was quite surprised to encounter such hostility from two members over something I posted that seemed to be on topic. I actually HAD done a search but only turned up OLD posts regarding the 2002 Whatever-It-Was program. I thought perhaps there might be other people who would like to input their current thoughts & experiences, but who might not want to scrutinize 30 posts from 1 or 2 years ago before doing so. That said, I have received four responses without one person yet responding to my original request:
"I would like to hear what others think about The Extra Mile promotion"

There have been no material changes to the program. Given that, why would you expect previous opinions to change?

given the difficulty in using said OnePass miles, most flyertalk members think the program is a "rip."

each year, i subscribe to the lowest plan because with the 1,000 mile on-line sign-up bonus, i think it's fair on a $/mile basis.

there.

If you are able to cash in your OnePass miles for awards that you value at significantly above 1 cent per mile spent, than sure, this promotion is worth it.

I did some math and figured out that I was getting a value of about 1.5 cents per mile I cashed in for a OnePass award, so the money spent on the Extra Mile (1 cent per mile) should give me a 0.5 cent per mile profit, or 50% bonus value.

Keep in mind that you will only get this bonus for CO metal flights. I did alot of flying to Asia on non-qualifying NWA flights this year and almost didn't get all my Extra Mile Bonus miles! I bought the bonus last December and collected my final bonus last week! That was close...I didn't expect that I would be flying so little CO metal.

Your mileage may vary -- especially since so many people are having a tough time finding a good value reward for their OnePass miles. If you aren't able to get good rewards with your OnePass miles, or are not sure you will be flying much CO metal, then this bonus may not be for you.
