Does EUA Work with Reward Tickets?
I'm looking to burn some miles for a bunch of coach tickets for a family vacation. Will the reward tickets be subject to EUA? And if the answer is "yes", how about companion upgrades? (I'm Plat, and I plan to split my record from the rest of my non-elite traveling companions.)
BTW, I did a search and came up blank, but if this issue has already been addressed, please forgive me for any poor search methods. Gracias.

Reward tickets do not qualify for upgrades. Also, when I flew (as Plat), and spouse was on reward ticket, counter and gate agents would not even try to process a companion upgrade (and therefore she got my FC seat, and I was stuck in coach). However, others have reported on limited success in receiving upgrades (on reward tickets) at the airport. So do ask when you show up.

- Flying on Continental Airlines operated flights will almost certainly not be upgraded. There may be the occassional upgrade for operational purposes or from a misinformed or kind agent. You will definitely not be upgraded by EUA or the kiosk.
- Flying on Northwest Airlines operated flights will be eligible for upgrades. You will be able to be upgraded via EUA. Silver Elite members are not eligible, only Gold and Platinum.

The above are just some of the relevant past threads. There are many, many more in the FT Archives. If you need more information, search there.

. I checked in at a E kiosk and it upgraded me DTW > ROC and put me on standby ORD > DTW. I was called up at the gate about an hour before the flight and recieved the other upgrade. A nice suprise!
