Change FF# after upgrade processed?

I looked and found a similar post, but didn't get my question answered, so here it is.
I am Onepass gold and Skymiles gold, and have already requalified for Onepass gold next year. I want to top off my DL account with a CO flight I'm taking this weekend, but don't want to sit in the back. The upgrade has already processed, and my questions is: Has anyone had success changing to a partner's FF # after getting their upgrade with their Onepass #, while at the same time retaining their seat up front?
If so, at what point and where should I change my FF #? Thanks FT!

Under alliance policy, if Elite status is used to obtain an upgrade, then miles MUST be credited to that account, or else the upgrade is to be rescinded. Enforcement of this policy has been spotty thus far, but I expect that to change as agents become increasingly familiar with the rules.

If you change the FF # to one that is not eligible for an upgrade you will lose the upgrade.

For example - If you are upgraded as CO Plat and want to change at the gate to NW Silver, it is still possible to keep the upgrade. If you change it to any DL (even Plat) you will lose it.

In your case - changing to DL will lose the upgrade. CO gate agents are more aware to this policy these days and it's very rare to get past them on this.

I respectfully disagree. I've done it a few times when I had the "Trial CO Silver" and wanted to earn NW miles. Just have them do it at the gate or get both the number in there. Call the Res line and have them enter your DL number in there and ask them to keep your CO number in their too so you can check-in online. They may say that they can't do this, but they've done it for me 2x before, so it's possible. Check-in w/ you CO number and get the upgrade and change it at the gate as close to boarding as possible (at this point, your seat has been assigned, and unless it's a really oversold flight, you should retain your seat...)

If I put my DL# in there at the gate for the outbound flight, will I retain my return leg upgrade on Monday's inbound or will the DL # move me to coach automatically for that flight? I have already been upgraded for the return leg on Monday, so techincally I have a seat for the inbound too. I hope this makes sense, and thanks for your help.
