HNL Schedule Changes

I just got a fax with a schedule change for my upcoming honeymoon.

We're booked on CO15/14 on December 8/21.

CO 15 is now departing at 2:15pm, arriving at 8:15, and CO 14 is departing at 4:50pm, arriving at 7:10am.

I'm guessing they reconfigured their HNL schedules to reduce the amount of time the planes spend on the ground there.

CO just cut 5 1/2 hours off my honeymoon!

Yup, that schedule change was implemented to better accomodate connecting flights to the East coast for flt. 14 and to have better turn around time on flt 72/73.

Happy travels!

Although personally I feel the older schedule worked better since a later departure of flt. 14 allowed for a nice dinner prior to take-off...

Aloha

What is the schedule change for 14/15 and 72/73? Is there a schedule change for 1/2 as well?

This really sucks... CO took a bad situation and made it worse. Now there is no conceiveable way to make a connecting inter-island flight upon arrival in HNL.

Now it seems that I will have to burn a night in HNL rather than simply go on to KOA.

Yeah, another "one liner" really enlighting post by a CAL high-post-count "expert". Of course it required the usual amount of editing of the "one liner" post to correct it.

So I've discovered that:

Flight Departure Arrival
old 15 EWR 11:40AM HNL 5:40PM
new 15 EWR 2:15PM HNL 8:15PM
old 14 HNL 7:50PM EWR 10:10AM
new 14 HNL 4:50PM EWR 7:10AM
73 IAH 12:20PM HNL 4:50PM
72 HNL 11:55PM IAH 11:20AM

I'm still not sure what changed on flight 72/73. I'm also not sure how this increases utilization of equipment. Under the old schedule, 14/15 was a simple spoke turnaround. Can they do that after an 11 hour overwater? I can't figure out what they're doing under the new schedule.

Does CO have a maintenance base in HNL?

Flight 73 used to leave HNL at 11:30 p.m. or at around 9:30 p.m. depending on the day of the week.

There is a recently built maintenance hanger which you can see here: http://makeashorterlink.com/?X208247E5

So, instead of turning around every flight that CO has to HNL, it seems like they're alternating the flights. BTW, there is usually always a 764 in the hanger especially during the evenings, so it's clear that they keep a plane there for maintenance overnight, probably for the Guam flight the next day.

Aloha

My tickets for Jan 2004 say Flight 73 departs IAH at 12.15 pm and arrives HNL at 4.50pm. Since these tickets were purchased last Jan, that change in schedule seems to have been on the cards.
My return, however, on CO14 has the flight leaving HNL at 7.50pm and getting into EWR at 10.10am, which seems to be a recently thought of change.
