CO fare class

Hey, I'm new here, I had a question about fare classes, specifically what is Economy (L), as it shows on my online receipt.

I also did that silver elite thing below and it worked, question is, how do I check the EUA thing? (I am flying AUS-IAH-PHX / PHX-IAH-AUS in August)

Are chances pretty decent I will get an "upgrade"? What does one entail, does an 'upgrade' simply mean bumped up to first class?

Sorry for the ignorance on my part, this airline stuff is hard to understand. Thanks for any help!!

I'm not familliar with an "L" fare class for CO--I believe and L in the fare basis code refers to the fare being non-refundable, but it shouldn't appear as the first letter. ARe you sure you're looking at the fare class not the fare basis code?

As long as your OP number is associated with your reservation, you don't need to do anything to sign up for EUA--to check on your chances, you can use ITN or Galileo (there are numerous threads on this board you can search for that give URLs and instructions for these site).

Without having flown on specific legs, it's hard to say what upgrade (yup, you just sit in first class (F)instead of coach (Y)) chances are--as a silver, you get beat out by golds and plats, so it depends how many of them are on your flights. This varies by route, time of day, and day of the week.

atx - here's the deal:

L class fares are pretty much the lowest CO sells. Since free upgrades are prioritized by elite level and fare basis, you're basically at the end of the line for the upgrade. That certainly doesn't mean you're out of luck, but it does mean that you need to hope for flights with low elite loads.

The other stuff you're entitled to as a temporary silver:
-Priority boarding
-Priority luggage handling (ask for a temporary tag at check-in)
-Priority phone line - once elite status is indicated on website, you can navigate to it under the "frequent flyer" menu
-50% bonus miles
-You can also try to change your seat to the "elite" section at the front of coach - probably not worth the trouble.
