Question re: Seat Assignment: -/-

So when I've checked in for my flight online, then the next morning before my flight I go to my reservation online and see - instead of 14C, should I assume I've been removed from that seat due to an upgrade?

Or is it just that the seat's no longer changable since I already checked in?

Thanks...

If it were me I would call. -/- is generally a red flag (although it may mean nothing is wrong, it may mean that something is wrong... ).

I've noticed that pretty frequently... never had any trouble. I too thought that I may have received upgrades, but usually not the case. You have a seat and you are checked-in, so you should be good to go.

The only times I have seen that is when it is a very full flight and the only seat is a seat that must be released at the airport (like 2B on a 738).

i've actually had this happen to me twice and was fine when i got to the airport. my originally chosen seat locations were intact.

wouldn't it just have been easier to call instead of posting a thread on flyertalk? that's what i did...

This has always been a red flag for me. On a recent flight ewr-sju (738 metal)I was booked in 14C on a Y fare and saw during online check-in that my seat had changed to - and I would have to checkin at the terminal for seat assignment.

Once at the terminal they told me my new seat was 29F (narrow seat and limited recline). I asked how this could possibly happen and they told me it was a very full flight, but could not tell me why my confirmed seat assignment was let go.

I asked them to change my seat back to 14C or upgrade me. Eventually, after getting a supervisor to the counter, they moved me back to 14C.

I would call Continental right away or risk having a pretty miserable flight.

If you click the online check in button again, you can view your seats and / or change them and reprint your boarding pass.

No, no, no... I know I have my seat - I'm all checked in - that's not the problem. I'm just wondering why it sort of "disapears" sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. I know I'm stilli in 14C.

This happens to me every time I check in online on a 738 flight and choose an exit row seat. I wouldn't worry about it if you've already checked in. For some reason after you check in the itinerary goes to showing a blank for your seat assignment if you're in an exit row on the 738 (it could very well happen on other aircraft -- I just haven't experienced it yet). However, if you go back into the online check in program, and select to review your seat choices, you'll see you're still in the seat you selected the first time you checked in.

If it happens before you check in, then there is cause for concern, as you probably don't have a seat assignment. But this has happened to me 15-20 times this year after checking in online and every single time there's been absolutely no problem, so I no longer get alarmed when it happens.
