Nah, I merely asked what the policy was, I didn’t explain what happened. I've emailed the customer care people explaining what happened. I guess we'll see.
To be honest I'm not really after any 'goodwill' gestures, I just wish they would get everybody on the same page and standardize their service so that in the future I know what to expect before I get to check-in and roll the dice as to whether I get an agent who knows what he/she is talking about or not.

40lbs!!! No wonder no-one can ever find any overhead bin space on US planes - EEEeeek!
According to Virgin's website, their linit for hand baggage is 13lbs (6kg) for economy passengers or 35lbs (16kg) for Upper Class passengers. There limit for checked baggae on Asian routes for economy passengers in not much higher (20kg) than 40lbs total...
I guess that some of the factors on limiting weight COULD be safety related - i.e. stregth of overhead bins, people dropping heavy items from overhead bin height, overhead bins flying open and 40lbs of lead crystal shooting out...
Still, it is probably enforcement of size/amount of carry-on which is seems to make more sense than weight (I have seen people with more carry-on luggage than I have checked luggage!) - it gets a bit of a joke sometimes....
Still, I do agree with the original poster: Continental and Virgin need to get some communication and consistency worked out. And Continental really needs to provide staff who have a clue about their airline's rules and policies... (that's very bad).
