Continental.com is down. AGAIN???
Can't seem to hit the CO.com site. It's been like this all day.
Anyone else having trouble?
With all the problems in the airline industry you would think that one of their main distribution points would be up 100%. Or at the very least send you to an information page saying "site down for maint". But nothing at all? Its unprofessional.
In other industries website downtime costs millions. I cant imagine why the uptime problems and issues with CO.com aren't being addressed.

The server time is busy finding ATT customers to send free Silver elite status to and to make sure that any elites slated for EUAs don't get them if they're flying Q or T

I'm sure is due to the Internet worm impacting a great deal of web sites. American Express is having the same problem. I take it they didn't update their sequel servers back in July 2001.

From CNN.COM
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/interne...ack/index.html
"Several companies -- including Bank of America and Continental Airlines -- reported widespread computer problems Saturday, but it could not ascertained whether the worm was to blame."

Terrific, just one thing though. I checked the following OTHER airline sites. All were working and functional. Even the ones Gordo has taken the time to bash! LOL
American Airlines
Delta
NWA
US Airways
United
Southwest
Jet Blue
But remember as Gordo says "THEY ARE STUPID". At least they have the knowledge to patch their SQL servers. LOL

It was not just CO's website that was not workingm, the computer at EWR were offline when I arrived today to check in. I had to use a ticket agent to check in and that took for hours.

Looks like it's the worm... the text from the CNN.com article in RW's post has been changed as follows:
"Several companies -- including Bank of America and Continental Airlines -- reported widespread computer problems Saturday.
Bank of America spokeswoman Lisa Gignon said the bank's problems appeared to be worm-related, but she could not verify it.
Continental said the worm attack caused its difficulties. Spokesman Jeff Walt said agents reverted to "the old fashioned way" -- phones, and pen and paper -- to record reservations and electronic tickets.
"[That is] more time consuming, so we had some scattered delays around the system and some cancellations of regional flights," said Walt, adding that the airline experienced few problems on its national flights. "It looks like we're getting close to [having] everything resolved."
Walt said Continental's hub at Newark, New Jersey, was the most affected by the problems, but problems were also reported in Houston, Texas, and Cleveland, Ohio. No delays lasted more than 30 minutes, he said."
Glad I ain't flying today.

Don't blame CO.
One of my web sites has been down for 24 hours, with no end in sight. Several of my partners and service providers are experiencing even more trouble.
I am strictly against the death penalty, but I think that people who write, release, and propagate worms should be shot. No trial, no jury, just a bullet.

When I called CO this morning, I was told that all of their computers were down due to a 'virus'. A call about half an hour later was handled successfully with no computer problems. No problems on checkin this evening, either.
FWIW, continental.com is now displaying a proper 'We're sorry - it's broken' page.

Any company that would base their web site on Microsoft Server software needs their IT staff replaced.
Nine times out of Ten when I run into a broken site - it's running on MS crud.
It seems like there has been a severe security hole published every week that applies only to Microsoft software.
