Follow-up---long
Before reading, I did get a battlefield 2 minutes before the door closed, so the system ultimately worked
. Given the number of segments traveled this year, things can go wrong and this has been the only problem that I have had. So a success rate over 95% is pretty good (In statistics, that's significant). I believe CO is, easily, the best domestic carrier.
At 24 hours out I still had not received my miles upgrade (3 out of 12 Fs available at this time). I tried online checkin and was informed that I had to see an agent at the airport. Upon arrival, I requested the agent to check me in, who proceeded to try the kiosk which didn't work.
After some typing, I was informed that my status had been lowered as a result of having been waitlisted. She had to remove/cancel the waitlist request so that I could regain my platinum status. I guess this is the previously discussed issue where people have said that you need to cancel it at 24 hours or bad things happen. She indicated, I was in the system like a silver. I asked if I would be placed higher than plats (P1 status) because I was waitlisted on points, she said no.
So as a result of waitlisting and not canceling the waitlist, here were the consequences.
1. not able to check-in 24 hours in advance, thus reducing the probability of an upgrade with other plats on same fare (no comfort headphones either
).
2. demoted to a status less than platinum
3. going to lose my points (I did have the other leg upgraded though)..not as big of deal as being demoted and falling in the cue.
4. Absolute bewilderment at the process.
Here is my question, if I cancel my waitlist, do I lose my other leg's upgrade?
This is a bad situation. It is the burden of the customer to navigate this completely illogical maze. CO should try to come up with a solution that is less punitive and is more automated.
My suggestion is not to waitlist.
