EUA working too well?

I never thought i'd say it, but the EUA system seems to be working too well.

I'm a recently minted Gold, up from Silver for most of the year. I checked my email at work this morning to find that I was upgraded two nights ago (Sunday) for a Friday morning flight.

This seems to me to be the plat window, not gold. My account doesn't say anything about plat.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I, too, have noticed upgrades clearing earlier than my EUA window should open. I can trace this back to as far back as August.

Some of my flights clear way before my window and those flights tend to have a number of seats available in F at takeoff. Some of my seats clear at the airport and those are the flights that are packed in F. The only thing I can conclude is that they upgrade elites early if they feel they don't have a prayer of seeling the seats and they hold them for purchase if availability is limited. Just a guess

Just a couple of days ago, I had my upgrade processed over 2 days in advance as a Silver Elite. FC was full at take-off (as was the entire flight). It was actually the first time I had ever been upgraded as a Silver. Luckily, that flight qualified me as a Gold so hopefully I'll have better luck. The ironic part is that I actually gave it up at check-in b/c I was flying with my wife and couldn't get her upgraded so we took two in the bulkhead instead.

I thought this could be the case, as my flight on Friday is still wide open in F and Y. But my return is on Sunday evening--and it's almost full in F, and I got my upgrade at the plat window. Odd...

Well I'm a gold and noticed exactly the opposite.

In fact, I haven't gotten one EUA notice prior to arriving to the airport ALL year.

This is the main reason I'm leaving CO and switching to NW.

I went thru this when they first started then thought that the EUA window is Biz Days. And remember that certain fares do qualify for auto-upgrade at time of purchase (full fares).

So clearing this weekend for a Friday Flight might be in window depending on how many days this week are Biz Days. Surely 12/31 and 1/1 are not Biz Days to them

Mr Fish has been having this problem. Most of his Plat EUAs come at the three-hr mark, or occasionally the night before. Since he's out of EWR to other hubs (ORD,BOS,LAX, etc), I think it mainly due to holding seats in A til last minute.

I usually offer it to my wife, she won't take it and I fly F and sneak food to her. I guess I'm so accustomed to flying alone, but I know that many people like to fly together. This recently happened on a sold out flight and I was happy I stayed in F.

I tried to give it to my wife but she refused as well. It was only an hour flight (EWR-CLE) so besides drinking my Diet Coke from a plastic cup instead of a glass, I don't think we missed out on much.

Dbaker: Of course After reading FT for all these years, I made sure that this mistake would never happen to me.

Seems that I just get stuck with all the flights with zero A inventory up until the day of departure.
