Not officially. It's been reported to happen, usually if you get a nice agent (sometimes at the PC) and there are still empties in FC after all Golds, Gold companions, Silvers and Full-Ys have been upgraded.
But given how hard it is for gold's and even plt's to get upgraded these days, do not expect it. You can always use miles for one of the companions.

i think its quite easy especially if everyone's names are different.

add 1st companion at check in and add the second at the gate or PC. i may be incorrect but i believe that once the companion is added, there is really no easily viewed way to reference the elite passenger.

i added my mom and then my brother in phx and they were both called at two different times once the list was cleared.

i will admit though, that i have only tired this once. im 1 for 1. good luck even getting an open seat for yourself, much less a companion.

unless its a significant other or really really close friend, I ask the agent to clear the golds before my plat companion in the few cases I've used it.

FYI...

I flew LAX-EWR on Thanksgiving day last year (flying through from HNL) with my wife and two daughters. The PC agent in HNL gave a comp. UG (LAX-EWR) to one of my daughters. Upon arrival in LAX I tried every charm with the PC agent and was expectedly rebuffed for the extra Plat. Comp. UG.

We got on the flight (me and one daughter in FC - wife and 2nd daugter in Y) and considering it was Tksgiving day the flight was empty. FC on 757 was almost empty.

Still couldn't move one more up front......

I asked the same question last year and then tried it myself on a liesure trip that we took. I tried all suggestions given, but had no luck getting two upgrades. Below is the link to the thread I just mentioned:

Not available on businessfirst flights. Platinum members traveling on any fare paid ticket are allowed to extend their upgrade benefit to one companion traveling on any fare paid ticket ( free ticket are excluded), also applicable on Northwest or Copa.
The companion may only be confirmed on the day of departure at the airport within 2 hours of the flight and must be on the same itinerary as the Platinum member. THe companion does not need to be in the same record as the plantinum. The Platinum member must present their elite card at check in. If space is available the upgrade will be proscessed on a flight, first come first serve basis.

I think you missed the part of the OP's question about the 2 companions.

When space is available, it always works for me.

Doubtful, unless you're sleeping with a PC or GA agent...

It has happened though before when people got super nice agents and there were still MANY open seats in FC...

These days its not going to happen.

Remember the ONLY way to get a first class seat for sure is to pay for it...

Not that it matters to me much, but your post says "Yes you can" (get two travel companions upgraded), but the paragraph that you quoted from CO's policy manual does not substantiate your statement.

On my last trip from PIT to IAH I tried for the first time to add a companion to the upgrade list at the 2 hour mark. The gate agents did so but placed him 9th. I asked about the order in which they upgrade and they said he'd go to the bottom. I'm a Plat. I thought at the 2 hour mark they were listed by the sponsor's status.

In SLC when I was a Silver on more than 1 occasion I walked by a Plat's upgrade companion (kids so I could tell and I saw them asking for it at the gate) in first while I sat in the back.

Does anyone know the order for sure or was the GA mistaken?

She was mistaken...you're companion should have trumped Gold and Silver elites at the gate. Just another example of the GA's making a bad situation worse by not knowing the rules.
