Need help understanding new rules

Hi all,

I have cross-posted this on Mileage Run and NW, in hopes that someone(s) can help me figure out what my options are in the following situation.

I have 4 MRs scheduled between Thanksgiving and Dec 9th. 2 on CO and 2 on NW. Am trying to maintain silver on CO for next year. It's a situation where I either have to do all the runs, or none of them, as I need all the miles (nothing like waiting till the end of the year to get 25000 miles).

I am trying to squeeze these runs in during a business trip to the states, but it now looks that I will have to pay more attention to business than I planned, and quite likely will not be able to do any of the runs. Of course, all the fares are cheap, nonrefundable.

What can I do to salvage the money? I understand that I have to make any changes by the departure day, which I can do, but then what? These are not itineraries that I will ever use again, so there's no point in just changing the dates. Is it possible to put off using them for a period of time, to other destinations? Is it possible to combine the two CO ticket values into one, ditto the NW?

I would be very grateful for some clear guidance here...

I don't know the specific rules of your ticket, but I've generally been able to cancel non-refundable tickets on CO. They'll charge you a $100 fee and then you'll have one year from the date of issue (or was it date of travel?) to rebook the tix. Not sure if NW works the same way, but that wouldn't surprise me.

Good luck.

There is a way that you can park the money from your non-refundable tickets into a refundable ticket.

I can't remember exactly how it was done, but a helpful CO agent named resagent86 wrote about this on this forum several months ago.

Vulcan maybe able to give you some help as well. Good luck.

With the new rules and on an international ticket--I've been told the change fee is now $300 each and you have to make a new reservation before the original date of travel or else you lose the entire value of the ticket (s). I recently had an old (from last year) NW ticket XXX-AMS for travel this Nov. I was charged $300 to change it to a fully refundable (Y) EWR-xxx (in the US), but then was able to cancel that trip and received the full amount back (less the $300 change fee).
As far as combining them either on CO or NW, I don't think that is allowed. You would have to make 4 separate reservations and posibly incur a fee of $1200!
Apparently these new rules took effect in Oct of this year.
