I've read that the passenger's bags are destroyed when the cargo holds burn, so I would presume that they will be happy to accept your checked luggage.

Oops, I just realized that the question was about airtrain and not airtran. You can safely ignore my comment about airtrain.

You would think it would be mentioned if it were available.

It was originally planned, but scrapped post-Sept 11, which essentially ruled out all off-airport bag check.

Please explain how it was tasteless.
The reference was to Airtran #956 which caught on fire. Cargo was destroyed and some of the floor in the business class section was destroyed. No one was hurt, but cargo (luggage, etc) and parts of the aircraft were destroyed.

I don't think it was tasteless to point out that ValuJet DBA AirTran has an abominable safety record.
AirTran's record speaks for itself. It is not and has never been a safe airline. This fact is not altered by AirTran's replacement of most of its older aircraft with 717's, because its safety and maintenance practices continue to be deficient.
The type of airline that wants the public to forget about its safety problems is the same type of airline that will allow its employees to forget about safety as well. To run a safe airline, you have to have a total safety culture. At 35,000 feet you cannot pull over; there is no room for error.
Thanks to dbaker and all those who do not let us forget about safety and who help to hold companies like AirTran accountable for their bad actions.

Yep. Mmm-hmm. Whatever you all want to say.
Like I said, I just hope it doesn't catch up with you.

from time to time it seems necessary to congratulate our FlyerTalk oldie and clown emmett_s (junior) about the way he still 'gets' some FT-colleagues here on this board with his 'jester'-topics.
Have fun (all of you!)

If a family member of yours was on the flight, you probably would not be joking about it.
