IAH->ANC...EUA or Miles?

Good Day!

Next month I'll be headed northbound to ANC.
I've chosen the IAH->ANC (stop in SEA).
Also, I'll be flying the same route on the return.

My question is this: Does anyone have any experience with this route and EUA?

Right now the F cabin looks empty.
But, we know that means nothing!

So, should I use some miles or should I just let EUA kick in?

...Any suggestions/insight would be greatly appreciated!

I flew IAH-(SEA)-ANC during the height of the season (mid/late June) and chose to upgrade myself rather than chance it... it was a 757 and FC was full. I know it was full from IAH-SEA and I think for every person that got off in SEA there was a replacement in FC going to ANC.

On the way back I flew thru PDX, not going to IAH. The ANC-SEA-IAH flight leaves ANC at like 1:30am or so... the ANC-PDX flight leaves at about 3:15am if I recall. I was 1 of 3 in FC on a 757 w/ 24 seats.

Again, this was at a peak travel time to ANC.

if it's a one-stop flight with a thru flight number, use miles. you want to bet on the leaks from A to F happening at the same time on both legs?

Save your miles, let EUA get you in first! I have taken this route a few times. I have always gotten EUA for ALL the legs of the trip (even my PHX-IAH leg). First will fill up, but it will be mostly with EUA people I believe. You are also going in the shoulder/low season for alaska. So, you are not fighting with all the vacationers.

It is kind of weird flight. All the flights I have had left IAH around 5:30pm so you get dinner on the way to SEA. THEN, after the stop, on the way to ANC they serve you dinner again. It is the most food you could possibly be served on a 'domestic' flight.

I am actaully in ANC right now. Good weather, AWESOME fall colors (just took a drive from Valdez back to Anchorage). Of course you look to be coming in October; the state starts getting its first good dusting of snow at the end of this month, sorry.

I was served dinner from IAH to ANC, but then the "cold plate" from SEA to ANC.

You might want to price the trip on NW. I've flown it twice and was upgraded both times. Also the fare on NW was lower.

EUA Cleared this morning from IAH->SEA & SEA->ANC! ...So, I still have my positive space certifcates!

Of course, as is par for the course, the DCA->IAH portion did not clear EUA. If I get it at all it will have to be a "red coat rescue" I'm sure. But, I'm used to that by now!

Many, Many Thanks to all for the advice!
