baggage issues at EWR...
I rarely ever check baggage when flying, but ocassionaly I will (leisure travel).
The past (3) times that I have checked baggage when I arrive downstairs my flight is already on the board with a carousel number and the following scenario is played out:
I wait and wait, recheck the central board to make sure that I am still in the right place... still no bags. Several more minutes of waiting, recheck carousel number, still accurate.
Then like five mins later they announce a carousel change and I walk over and ALL of the bags from that flight are already sitting on the belt.
I waited nearly 40 mins last week for a bag, only to find out that it had been going around some other belt for like 20 mins.

This has been routinely happening at EWR for the last several years or so (I can distinctly remember this happening since summer 2000).
As a matter of fact, whenever picking up bags at EWR, I routinely DISREGARD the posted info and simply go to all the claim areas to see where my bag is. 9 times out of 10, the claim area they post first is wrong.
Don't even bother using your "Elite Priority" tags at EWR -- your bags will come out LAST if you put those on!!

Got a compliment about something at EWR - Continental thanks you and takes credit for their hard work improving their global gateway.
Got a complaint about something at EWR - well jeezz, Continental will tell you it's not their fault, the airport is run by the Port Authority and there isn't a darn thing they can do to fix or affect anything.

Has anyone ever contacted 800-We-could-give a rats-rear, and asked if CO has a standard in place for proper baggage delivery? Something along the lines of JetBlue's standard? I believe they use "first bag on belt within 10 mins. of arrival, last bag on belt within 20 mins. of arrival". Bag belt changes are like gate changes, they have to happen from time to time. But there's no excuse for not communicating the change to the customer.

Your responses are so funny as I am convinced that Priorty Tags at EWR do mean the bags are abused and slowed down for delivery.. whether CO takes responsibility or not, it seems funny that they don't have enough leverage with the airport/port authority to correct the system...put the baggage issue to rest, it's not going to change.
