local ISP dialups from PC/WC...
This is a pet peeve of mine... the modem dialups are never well explained at the PC/WC. Often times you can spend 5+ minutes just figuring out how the hell to connect to the Internet and often times the staff does not know the answers. I’ve got toll-free number access too, but that is for “corporate use only”, etc...
So, in the spirit of giving something back to the community I figured I’d compile my recent experiences here. With the numbers of PC members and users here, we could probably get this list fairly complete for everyone’s benefit. If others post here, I will try to edit this message and cut and paste the info here so that all the info can be found in the first post. That way we can save this info into PDAs, etc.
ATL PC 9, 404
CLE PC 9, a/c not required (216)
DCA PC 9, 703
DEN PC 9, 303
DFW PC just dial local # (no 9, no a/c)
DTW WC 8, 1734
EWR PC 9, 973
IAD WC 9, 703
IAH PCs Terminal C just dial local # (no 9, no a/c)
IAH PC Terminal D 9,281
LAS AWC 9, a/c not required (702)
LGA WC NO LOCAL ACCESS
ORD PC/WC 9, a/c not required (773)
PHL WC 9, 215
PHX AWC 9, 602
SAT WC just dial local # (no 9, no a/c)
SEA PC 9, a/c not required (206)
SFO PC 9, a/c not required (650)
DEN PC: local dialups were changing the last time I passed thru. Not all cubicles may have access to local dialups. If memory serves me, it was going to be reduced to just one; if you were walking in from the entrance into the cubicle area it would be the one on the far left.
DTW WCs: definite access from the cubicle areas and from what I saw, the set-up was the same as ORD with modem jacks all over the club. This was in the central WC in the new DTW terminal. I would assume that it would be the same for the other clubs.
EWR PCs: local dialups from the cubicle areas of the clubs only.
IAH PC: D Gates - 9,281
ORD PC/WC: local dialups from not only the cubicle area, but the modem jacks in the tables between most chairs. Great setup.
PHL WC: local dialups from selected cubicles... only the two in the back corner closest to the computer and the back wall.
SAT PC: "data port" on new black phone was not operational. However I was able to access a local # via the modem jack in the wall... w/o 9, and w/o a/c.
SEA PC: no local dialups from the cubicles, but there is local access from the phone lines behind the couches and other phones around the club.
SFO PC: 2-line phones in the cubicles... very nice!

The correct area code in CLE is 216, not 206. 206 is SEA....

I've never really had a problem. Always dial 9,areacode and the local access number. That works virtually everywhere in the US.
713 numbers are local in IAH, as is 770 in ATL. FWIW.
This static resource would be a lot more useful within the ITYT Library than in a forum.

FYI updated above... new phone system in DFW... the dedicated modem ports are effectively "dead", however you can plug into the data ports on the side of the phone and direct dial a local # (no 9, no a/c required).
I will confirm later, but I think that the ones in IAH changed, or at least the C Terminal is different from D Terminal.
For the most part you are correct that you can dial 9,a/c and the number. But trust me, I've been in every one of those clubs in the last two months and things have changed.
Like when you show up at SEA and there are no dialups from the cubicles... you try every freakin' iteration of 9, no 9, a/c, no a/c, 9,1a/c, etc etc until you find out there are are no local dialups over there.
The WCs in DTW, you have to dial 8,1a/c and there are no signs that tell you how to do this, etc...
They've been changing the phone systems in the P-Clubs, you'll see new black phones that look like hotel phones, those clubs have been upgraded. I actually caught up w/ the guys doing the upgrading once. I was in SEA & SFO then later in the week in DEN. The phone systems had changed in each of those since the last time I was thru and when I got to DEN these guys were actually re-wiring the phones.
I spoke w/ them and they stated that there would be changes with regard to local dialups, hence my post here...

IAH Terminal C North and South P-Clubs: just dial local number (no 9, no a/c)
IAH Terminal D: 9,281

I like the theme of your thread, I run into this so often that I've compiled a list of all the PC and WC that I use and the access numbers, ac and 9/no 9 needed..

Sitting in the "Main" WC in Detroit (Window Seat) overlooking the main walkway. All phones in the WC allow local internet access, I just used 8,1,a/c,# and it worked like a charm. Great way to pass a few hours, and read FT!
