ITN Seat Availability Changes
Does anyone have any idea how an EWR -HKG flight could show
J4 D0 Z0 Y7 H7 K0 B0 V0 Q0 T0 on 4/10
and
J8 D0 Z0 E0 Y9 H9 K9 B9 V9 Q9 T9 on 4/17
Where did the extra seats come from?!
Thanks.

The secret is Yield Management! The seats may or may not exist, they just think that compensating for no-shows it's a good bet to try to sell 'em. Some of the lower fares may not be available for sale due to advance purchase requirements, but they wouldn't mind getting the change fee for passengers who might want to switch return flights.

Or that "Fare Sale" is over and they now "have" seats available for a higher fare that they wouldn't release during the fare sale period.
