Strange Non EUA Upgrade
As a CO Platinum, I was scheduled on an H fare EWR-LAX next Tues 3/26 returning 3/28 with seats in coach. (As usual ITN was showing F0 with A9 D1 etc on both fights.) This morning I checked my CO itinenary page and saw I now had FC seats in both directions--no EUA notification, and ITN was still showing the same data. I called OP to double check, and they said, Yes, I had been upgraded!! Not sure from where or why and since I'm not one to 'look a gift horse in the mouth', I just said thanks and hung up.
Anyone else experience this type of upgrade??
PS--my flights were the 4:00 pm out of EWR and returning on the 7:00 am from LAX--perhaps that had something to do with it???

Its an EUA upgrade and the notice simply failed. Note as a platinum you got the upgrade at the proper time.
The key to the puzzle is that its A9 and continues to be A9. If it were A8 and continued to be A8, it would be a real puzzle.
But in this case, there were probably, say, 13 FC seats remaining, and you got one of them, and now there are 12 remaining. It will show A9 (the most it will display) right through this.
The yield management system converted a seat for F for you, but so close to the time of upgrade, it probably wasn't visible on ITN for very long, if at all.

Well now reading your psot more closely, the return next Thursday is outside EUA. No idea. Maybe CO loves you more that the rest of us!

Also considering this is the 'hot' EWR-LAX route, that doesn't give out EUA's easily--I was more confused!
