I got to LAX before departure time but after the flight cut off time and CO rerouted me on a later flight (I got the lower milage of the reroute).

The check in at CLE, LAX, etc are far nicer whereas I had a runin with a TA/supervisor at EWR several years ago. I think EWR is far worse in term of customer service and/or sticklers for the rules...

I went to PC, and the agent there rebooked me on later flights with assigned seats.
How did you gain access to the Club with no BP?
