"TripAlert" Delayed Flight Notification
OnePass Flight Notification
Continental OnePass now offers TripAlert, a free service for members of
OnePass. TripAlert sends electronic mail and pager notification in the
event of pre-departure flight delays and cancellations.
To register for the service, click into the "Your Account" area on the
OnePass Web site and follow the instructions. Members will be notified
of the status of their flight every time they fly Continental Airlines
or Continental Express.

The above alert was recently in OAG or one of the other email newletters
for frequent flyers.
Last year, I had scheduled a trip from EWR to DEN on Continental. I took
advantage of the "convenience" of flight notification by calling the
Elite Desk from my car. I was told that my flight would be at least 2
hours late. My original departure had been called for 4pm and was originally bumped to 6pm (we finally left at 730pm). Instead of arriving at the airport at 2:30, I arrived at 4:30, still 90 minutes prior to the
then-scheduled departure. To my chagrin (I'm being polite), I was told
that my confirmed first class seat had been given away to a standby because I was not present at least 30 minutes prior to the ***originally scheduled time***. If you lose your seat by not showing up early even if the flight is delayed for hours, why bother calling? This is not a service. I eventually got a first class seat on a later flight, but not without over an hour of agitated frustration.
It took numerous phone calls to Continental, and I was finally sent a $50 gift certificate and a "one-segment" upgrade coupon (not one-way complete trip).
Anyhow, if this will continue to be the policy, I severely discourage flyers from taking advantage of this dubious benefit.
Do not get me wrong. I am a Continental Gold Elite, have been in One Pass since 1986, and as a rule I think Continental is great.
Perhaps input from WebFlyer can persuade them to fix this.

Continental's Internet services are consistently worthless. No surprise here.
