Tokyo Upgrade
Can someone please help here? Although a Platnium member for over a decade on CO I have stopped flying them the last 7 months now I have what I thought was a simple question that neither CO Elite desk nor the Membership Rules answers clearly for me how many miles I need on a IAH to Narita flight to upgrade RT from a economy class (not full fare Y) ticket. Does someone know that off hand?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I believe it's 25K each way.

25k each way on H/K fare. If I'm still correct, there's no stupid 30-day rule for trans-Pacific travel.

It is 25k miles each way, but unless you're on an H, K or Y fare you won't be able to upgrade it until April 4th when CO will charge you $400 each way if you're on a T or Q fare or $300 each way if you're on a V or B fare.

Above and beyond the 25k and the cost of the ticket in the first place?
I bet NW will be next if this is the case.

1. Because when CO put HoKeY into effect they found that people would actually pay a higher fare just to be able to upgrade! So they looked for a way to expand the revenue upgrades could produce, and this is what they came up with.
2. You bet yer bippy! The great unwashed masses love it! Those of us who know better have started taking our business elsewhere.
3. I think its 50/50 if NW will follow. They seem to have been making a lot more "customer-friendly" moves in the past year. Many more general bonus miles promos (on-line check-in, DTW connections). CO seems to have grown much more arrogant during the same time.
We'll see how CO responds when they don't win the Freddie this year. Have YOU voted?

I just returned this morning from Tokyo using a Onepass upgrade - it is definitely 50K roundtrip and you do need an H, K or Y fare if traveling on CO. Remember you can also use the same 50K to upgrade a NW ticket if you prefer.
