flight prices

I'd appreciate some input on getting the best price for a round-trip flight from ewr to gla (Scotland) in mid-July for a duration of about 3 weeks. The departure and return dates as well as the length of stay are flexible. I have 38K plus ff miles at this point, so, if I have the numbers right, I could buy 12K miles for $300 and use the total miles to pay for the flight. But if I can get a low enough cost flight, I'd like to save the miles for an off season flight in the future. The best price I've gotten so far is, with taxes, $900+.

Also, how much in advance of the flight date do I have to book the flight in order to be assured a seat? Might there be promotions for low cost flights between now and July?

If you purchase a ticket with ff miles, is it secure, can they "bump" you? (I'm a newbie at the business of using ff's.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

A reputable and good consolidator I have used in the past is Discovery World Tours in Richardson, Texas. They do consolidate Continental tickets (among other carriers) and they are more than happy to find you CO flights specifically if you ask.

I bought a ticket to Scotland for last July from them in March. The then-current price from mainline sources was about $900; my ticket was $614 plus taxes, it did accrue Onepass miles, and it was a great trip.

I believe it is www.discoveryworld.com, but if this doesn't work, email me and I'll get you the 800 number out of my files. Good luck!

depends on the airline and the contract they have with the airline. my travel agent uses favourite travel out of washington DC. most of the US carriers let you earn miles, usually BA does not. when it comes to EUA type upgrades, my experience has been that EUA will not apply to a non-published fare.
