How long for a refund?
I've recently been put in the situation where I had to request my first-ever refund of a CO ticket. I usually don't travel on refundable fares, so this has never come up before (that is, I normally just save unused tickets for future travel). But, I had purchased an international Y fare and upgraded to BF with miles, then cancelled the trip.
I requested a refund/redeposit on 12/31/01, but no credit has appeared on my credit card, nor have the upgrade miles been redeposited in my account.
I'm in no particular hurry for either, but I'd like to know what the rule of thumb is as to when I should start calling. I don't believe in calling before it's reasonable to do so, but I don't know what "reasonable" is in this situation.
I know they say "allow 2 to 3 billing cycles" for the credit to appear on your credit card, but this takes into account the standard billing cycles and time it takes to deliver paper statements, which means that you might not see your credit for up to 6 weeks after the airline posts it. But, since I can view my credit card online, I can see credits within a couple of days of them being posted, so I don't know how to evaluate the CO rule-of-thumb in this context.
Plus, the fact that my miles have not been redeposited is another indication that the refund has not been processed.
I was thinking of waiting until 2/1 before I called to ask about this, but I'm interested in what the collective wisdom is here regarding CO refund policy.

My experience has been that it takes almost three weeks, which is still ridiculous.
Call your credit card company (you can do this online if you used an AmEx) and dispute the charge and explain that you've requested a refund.

Refunds are covered in the Customer First document.
From the CO website, eTicket Refund Request:

My experience with CO and getting refunds is it usually takes one full billing cycle on the credit card. The 7 Days is an out and out lie.

gotta agree w/ DBAKER here....
call your credit card company and let them know you have dispute pending refund. AMEX is particularly good at this...
in this day and age there is no excuse for the delays in processing refunds. IMO its all calculated to take the maximum time it can possibly take without generating a customer complaint.
