How does the summer BF sale work?

How can you get this &%$^& promo to work? Every time I try it, it comes back with regular BF fares! Yes, I was in the appropriate window for dates and did not schedule a Saturday. Any tips?

Sorry if this has been discussed.

find the fare rules for the ZR2SIE fares, in general, these fares are restricted to certain airports, times, days of week.
for example, to get to TLV from the bay area, ZR2SIE is only available from SJC and SMF, but not SFO/OAK, and you can only fly EWR-TLV on CO 85/84 and not 90/91.

Try looking on Orbitz first. It is easier to change the dates, and the website is faster. Do not try open jaws at first.

Additionally, this 'Sale' has been going on continuously since late last year. I was able to make 3 reservations to CDG, FCO & TXL with no problem regarding dates at around $1500 each~~ but that was right after it was announced. I now see that for many dates the 'sale BF' fares are no longer available, thus you get the much higher regular BF fare.

You also need to make sure Z fare class inventory is available on the flight, which isn't always the case on every flight. You can use http://flyaow.com/classcwt.htm as a tool to see the booking class availibility, though it's probably not that much more efficient than using Orbitz or another tool, just more explicit.

i'm sure this has been discussed (but not in this thread)....so, does this fare qualify for any and all fare class bonuses (including elite qualifying bonuses)?

I dont want to start a separate thread, but can anyone tell me from memory when CO traditionally offers the BF sales to Asia? I need to plan a trip to HK next fall, probably around October, and I would rather just do a Z fare for 1800 or so, than pay 1000 for coach, plus fees, and burn miles for an upgrade that is unlikely to clear.

Not sure about CO but NW (U.S. market leader to Asia) offered WBC sale fares to Asia around end of September last year, for travel mid November to X'mas in season 1 and X'mas to end of January (approx.) in season 2. CO briefly matched some fares including offering MSP-HKG for an absurdly-low fare. I think you'd be lucky to get it for October though.

i'm sure this has been discussed (but not in this thread)....so, does this fare qualify for any and all fare class bonuses (including elite qualifying bonuses)?
At least for KL, the Z fares on CO and NW have yielded 125% PE + 100% CoS bonii.

Absolutely, yes. Just like full-fare J. ^

On this topic, I just checked the fares for one of my earlier BF sale reservations:
EWR-TXL end of July, using the same dates I've already booked, the BF Z sale fare of $ 1626 is still there. But what's interesting is if someone did not know about the sale, and was looking to book an 'upgradeable' fare and use miles + $$ for the BF seat, on the exact same dates/flights-- they would be faced with paying $1766 plus 40,000 miles and not being certain of getting that BF seat !! Right now the cheapest coach fare is $966 which is an I fare outbound (upgrade fee $450) and a B fare on the return (upgrade fee of $350)
